Have added the canceled book for Breaffy North ca 1863. You can see it here. http://www.igp-web.com/IGPArchives/ire/clare/land.htm Just so you know - in addition to the town Miltown Malbay the ED includes: Breaffy North Breaffy South Carrowkeel Cloonborny Dough Glendine South Illaun Kilcorcoran Leagard North Leagard South Poulawillin Knockloskeraun Hope someone is interested in something here. LOL Christina
Christina, Thank you for all your work. A question, if I may? How do you tell which is Miltown Malbay township? What do the map numbers mean? It looks like most of the land was owned by Burdett Moroney or is that just a statistical abnormality because all his were cancelled. Peter
Peter, The map numbers are the Ordinance Survey map numbers. You can get a feel for these by searching places at: http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/index.xml?action=placeSearch You can pull up a place name like Poulawillin and the parish which is Ibricken. This will give you a hit with links to a map. Click on the map and then hit the plus resizer to get very close. Now you will see the maps divided into property with these numbers. I am not great with maps but have found a few I was looking for using the maps on www.askaboutireland.ie Each page we are transcribing gives all the info on the place name. In the case of Miltown Malbay it says for instance Leagard North Town of Miltown Malbay Main Street I can send you an image off list so you can see what it looks like. You get the large landowners as Immediate Lessors in places. Often the same person. We just added the page for Carrowkeel and the owner was a Sir Edward Fitzgerald. As time goes by you see more place where the owner may be the person living there. Then it says In fee meaning he owned the property. Hope this makes sense. Just woke up.
