    1. Re:Co. Clare Research - CUSACK, etc.
    2. Clare researchers would be interested in the book, "Houses of Clare", by Hugh W. L. Weir (Ballinakella Press, Whitegate, Co. Clare, 1986). This is an excellent source for many family links. Though not what one might call a genealogical book, it often shows a few generations of families associated with various houses, castles, etc. in Co. Clare. It is very well indexed by surname and the articles include excellent sketch drawings of the residences, as well as histories and locations (townlands and precise directions so that visitors can easily find them). I checked this for CUSACK and though I did not find a James, I suspect he would be very close to some of the persons mentioned in the book. A "Gentleman" leasing acreage sometimes indicates a Catholic relative of a larger landholder of Protestant faith who would ordinarily be described as "Esquire", if he did not hold any higher title. Actually, the suffix "Gent." (or "Gentleman") would be a person of ancient "gentle" (noble) lineage and was often preferred by Gaelic-Irish families that would otherwise be described as "Esquire". The book would certainly be available at the LDS Library in Salt Lake City, as well as most libraries in Ireland. It might be found in the larger libraries in the USA, AUS, etc. where Irish have settled, or available through inter-library loan.
