Sharon: Thank you very much for the posting about the famine book. I have been on the look-out for just such a book for my children. The library in my hometown has -zero- when it comes to anything relating to Ireland, except for a very cutesy picture book on leprechauns. We travelled to Ireland last year and on some of the lengthy car trips, I told them what I knew of the famine (more than your average U.S. citizen, but probably much less than many of our listers). They were quite interested, but I couldn't produce anything for them written at their level to read. I'll be headed to Borders tomorrow to place an order - Thankyou! Meg Mulvey

Dear List, Years ago, I read a book about the famine and the politics in Ireland. It was so disturbing, that when some years later, I could not get further than the first few pages. I believe that the book was The Famine by Liam O'Flaherty. Alanna
