    3. Some of us researching Ireland and England records for the years 1600 to 1775 are aware of Indentured Servitude. Official definition here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indentured_servant Very old newspapers from New England and southern colonies down to the Carolinas, are full of ads placed by business owners (not all English surnames) posting rewards in pounds for the capture and return of their Irish slaves. It seems reasonable to assume many of our ancestors were slaves at one time. These parts of history tend heat things up and keep our research interesting. 2. If you Google Irish AND slaves you will get quite an assortment of information. I personally only heard about this recently. One of the first places that they sent Irish slaves in the 1600's was to Monserrat. Later in the 1800's when an Irish ship showed up, all the blacks spoke Gaelic. They said to the Irishmen - You don't look Irish. I have been helping a guy at work to trace his black genealogy and got to the end of the line (for now) to the Malotto individual. Initially I thought it was more likely the slave owner but now I have learned that the slave owners were mating the comely Irish lassie's with the blacks to get a lighter shade negro and they also wanted to increase their stock. Anyway, however the Irish came to be wherever they are - the countries are lucky to have us. I don't know if any of my past generations of family were any of those that were scooped up off the streets or stolen from their beds but I would gratefully accept them as family. And very br! ave and courageous ones at that.
