    3. Hi, Declan, Well, I don't know. I've only seen the name shown as ALLOWAY, and thatt's been in USA records. Elizabeth Ann's father, Thomas, had "North Ireland" listed as his birthplace. His death record is in Port Huron, Michigan, where his children (Elizabeth, married to CARMODY, and her brothers, James H., John M., Thomas, Joseph, and Francis) settled. The children and Thomas' (the father's) wife, Mary McDonald (b. in Scotland), all died there, too. Only the one son, Joseph, also has his birthplace listed as "North Ireland"--the rest are just "Ireland." But, the mother was Scottish, so it's possible she and Thomas met in North Ireland, migrated south, picked up some spouses in County Clare for their kids before emigrating to Canada, and then to the USA. One of John Joseph CARMODY's nieces, Margaret, married a James H. ALLOWAY. My file shows him as Elizabeth's brother, but I probably need to check that, as there's a 15 year age difference between James & Margaret. Not anything impossible, but I probably need to double-check that he's really one of Thomas' kids. I know Margaret is one of Michael CARMODY's kids. While I haven't seen a HALLOWAY spelling with this family, I guess that could be possible. A different family line (from County Wexford) shows up in the USA as ALPIN or ALPINE, but I've found Irish references for them showing HALPIN as well as ALPIN. Since the parents and apparently all the kids show up us transplants to the USA, maybe they just used County Clare as a resting point? I don't see any listed on the 1901 census, or the Griffith's valuations. I do believe John & Elizabeth met and married in Ireland, though, because the marriage date given in his obituary was 18 November 1882, just over 9 months from the birthdate of their oldest child, Mary Ellen, born 26 August 1883 in Ontario. That also correlates with his 1910 Michigan census record, where he's shown as being married either 27 or 28 years, and 18 years in the 1900 census. The census records for the children also substantiate that scenario. I've not found a marriage record for them in Ireland, however, so it's possible they emigrated separately to Canada, then married there. James & Margaret, however, did get married over here, because they emigrated to the USA in different years. I appreciate the input, though, and anything anyone else might be able to add. Adding an 'h' to the beginning of "Alloway" never even crossed my mind, so I'll be sure to consider that when looking for them.
