Amongst the passengers leaving Ireland on the 'Stakesby' at Cork on July 8, 1823 was Thomas Boyle born 1790 at Cloneen, Co. Clare, accompanied by his wife Mary Checkley and their four children and his brother Henry. All went to Ontario under the Peter Robinson plan to West 1/2 lot #18 Concession 7, Packenham Township, Canada West [Ontario] - [in the Ottawa Valley]. In 1829 finding their holdings unsuitable to meet the needs of the family, they moved to Lot 27, Con. 11, in Huntley, near Panmure. From there they moved into Fitzroy Township on Lot 2, Conc.2. William Boyle their seventh son (1856-1926) raised a family there. Five children were born to William and his first wife Mary Ring (1861-1896), and one son, Harry, and a daughter, Bessie, to his second wife Susan Poole. About 1908, William bought the Edward Wilson farm on Lot 10, Conc. 3 at Antrim Village. The stone house on the lot had been built by Wilson (of Huntley) who, in turn, had bought the land from Peter Smith, whose father had received the original deed from the Crown. William Boyle was the Township clerk for many years, as well as serving as a Fitzroy councillor and township Reeve. [Ref.
