My Roughans are from east Clare in the Parish of Kilnasoolagh, Townland Oumurkagh Fanellan which is near Newmarket-on-Fergus. I have found on the 1825 Tithe Applotment Book Corn's Roughan and John Roughan. Cornelius is my grgrgrandfather who was born here April 15, 1811. His father is also Cornelius and his mother is a Katherine McNamara. Cornelius emigrated to Gennesse County,New York. He embarked on the ship Brien at Limerick which sailed under Capt McFadden in April 1836. Cornelius moved to Racine, Wisconsin in 1841 and purchased land. On October 9, 1843 Cornelius married Katherine Shay who came from Limerick County, Ireland. There is also a Timothy Roughan who married Mary O'Neil in Newmarket-on-Fergus. Their oldest son John was born in 1849 in Ireland. They emigrated to Racine, Wisconsin in 1850. I believe Timothy is a brother to Cornelius. In the 1855 Griffith's Valuation John Rowhan is listed in Knocksaggart, Kilnasoolagh, Ennis. This is all I know about John so far. Maria
