Saturday Record 21 Mar 1925 Policeman's Furniture The Minister of Finance appealed against a decree of £148 awarded to Edmond and Margaret Cotter, Newmarket, in respect of the burning of furniture in May 1922. For the applicant Mr.Cullinan, B.L., said that Edmond Cotter had been a policeman in the county and got married, and had to leave somewhat suddenly. He left his furniture behind, with two bicycles, and a quantity of clothing with the intention of returning for them. When all had been packed up in the yard ready for removal they were burned. Mrs. Cotter verified counsel's statement as to the various articles destroyed. In reply to Mr.Lynch she said that none of the furniture had been removed before the burning. Mr.J.Stubbs gave evidence of value on behalf of the State, who, his lordship remarked was very fair and candid. The decree was affirmed.
