    3. Dear Brenda I too commissioned research from the Clare Heritage Centre which I will send you if you can give me a postal address. In relation to James Hickey in Griffith's, an extract from my Clare Heritage Report states he "shared 34 acres 2 roods and 20 perches of land with Edmund Ryan and Patrick Donohue. The valuation of this land amounted to 37 pounds and ten shillings suggesting it was high quality agricultural land." There were more Hickeys in the earlier Tithes survey. I would think James was a brother or a cousin of my Michael. The Donohue link is interesting there. There could well be a relationship. I will dig out my records at the weekend and have a closer look but godparents called McNamara and Malone feature commonly. Edmund Ryan was godfather to Mary Hickey (1842), sister of my great grandmother. I suspect Michael Hickey may have died before Griffith's survey as a Margaret Coffey was leasing a house valued at 10 shillings from a James Coffey in the townland of Brickhill West, next to Ballymorris.
