Hi, Crossing the Shannon Estuary between Clare and Kerry was very frequent in the 1800s. ( by both rowing boats and larger ones). Disappeared with the advent of motor transport. You will find all the same surnamres on both sides. The same is true with the Fergus Estuary. Declan
