Mr. Foley was born in County Clare, Ireland, 55 years ago, and came to America with his parents when 5 years old, the family settling in Boston, where the elder Foley at once started at his trade of blacksmth. The son became a cabinetmaker. On the death of his father thirty-four years ago, he moved with his mother to Springfield and opened a furniture store on Main street, which flourished until destroyed by fire. He had previously married Mary, eldest daughter of Patrick Sceory. After the burning of his store, Mr. Foley went to New York, where he resumed his furniture business. He returned to this city and began the study of law, and was admitted to the bar in 1875. While a bright and fluent speaker, Mr. Foley confined himself to real estate and office work. He was widely known through his activiey in Irish and political organizations...He leaves, besides a widow, five children.
