Deaths At Wellington on 18th August 1850, after a short illness, in his 56th year, Capt Richard O’Connell, HM 65th Regt of Foot. Native of Ennis, Ireland. Served in the 42nd Regt during the Peninsular War and was severely wounded at the taking of Badajoz. He arrived in New Zealand 1846 and took part in the operations against Rangihaeta in the Horowiki Valley. He was buried with Military Honours, Col Gold officiating.
