    3. Hi, Eric, I don't know if this is going to be helpful or not, as I have no way of truly confirming whether or not he's the same man, but I found a Patrick Carroll who emigrated in 1887 from Ireland, b. abt. 1854, in Hampden County, Massachusetts, in the 1900 census. He was married by that time to Johanna with no children born after 12 years of marriage. His occupation was listed as Sr. fireman. His citizenship status was listed as alien. I can send you the image if you are interested. Then, there were a couple more possibilities in that census, but none lived in the Boston area. That fact doesn't rule out these others, but I would start in the Boston area and eliminate those before moving outward. I looked in the 1910 census to see if I could find that man or couple again, but I had no luck. The next avenue of research would likely be to check if that one in Hampden Co. had received his citizenship. However, I don't have any experience in researching in the Boston area, and Ancestry.com's databases for Massachusetts don't include naturalisations. Perhaps someone else on this list can help with that? Good luck, Jeanne Declan Barron <newparkhouse.ennis@eircom.net> wrote: Hi, I was asked to post this message to this list, Declan ----- Original Message ----- From: kimony@unison.ie To: declan barron Sent: Saturday, December 09, 2006 5:17 PM Subject: Carroll Declan, would you be good enough to post this message on the Clare Roots website for me? Information sought on PATRICK MICHAEL CARROLL of Abbeyview, Clarecastle, Co. Clare. Born at Abbeyview in January 1856. Son of William Carroll and Catherine Ryan. Baptised at Clarecastle R.C. Church on 27 January 1856, sponsors: James Hickey and Bridget Ryan. He attended school in Clarecastle. Family lore has it that he left for the U.S.A. and all contact has been lost. The last reference to him was in his father's will of 1889 - "to my son Patrick who is in America". In the Boston Passenger Lists - 1820 - 1943, I have found a Patrick M. Carroll who departed from Queenstown, Ireland and Liverpool, England on the ship Cephalonia, arriving in Boston on 16 September 1887. The entry gives his age at 30 and estimated birth year as abt 1857. This could well be the man that I am seeking and I would welcome any advice on how to further the search in the U.S.A. 3. Jeanne and Eric, Most of the naturalizations I think have to be looked up in the Federal Archives Centers. Perhaps some SKS who lives close to one (I don't) would volunteer to do this.
