    2. If you think your John Sheedy lived in Chicago, there are only 6 in the 1900 census, 3 born in Ireland, 3 born in Illinois. Both Cook County and Irish in Chicago lists are very helpful. Diane

    3. Say thanks for looking!!!  I have not worked on those lines for some time.  I cannot remember his bd, have to look it up.  But as I said I cannot tell anything more about him.   The bit of infromation came from a rather odd individual.  I had posted something on a list and a guy came on and said that my Sheedy's in WI were related to some of his people or something.  He said that the Sheedy's were written up in some book.  Then he became mad and there was no way to undo that and he was gone.  I order the book costing at that time a whopping $40 and nothing there about Sheedy's.  Even called the store and they agreed with me.  So donated the book and wasted the money.   My father living with an uncle in Philly said that we were related I thought to some people in Upper Darby.  I think there was a John Sheedy and a Scanlon there, but have no idea what name if even these surnames or something else, or if the story is even true.   So, thanks, but that is why I read and hope some day to find a scrap.  And again the generation gaps are so great.  My mother's oldest half brother was 30 years older than she and she and a niece were just weeks apart in age and in the same school. I have a real mess on both sides!!!   When my father died, I found some pictures.  Several were of his Uncle Dan in ND.  I never knew that he had visited his uncle before I was there when I was a child!!!!!  Then I saw a picture of a young guy and I think it was labled as Martin Sheedy.  Who is he????  Did not know my father had two uncles in Philly.  In working the census and using his brother's letters that were not thrown away, I discovered the second uncle.  But his and his wife's both names were messed up by the translaters.  Found that Martin was the son of Michael Sheedy and had a twin.  There were other twins in that family.  My mother never knew and both of us were so interested in twins, having twin brothers myself.  Martin is dead!  Martin's sister, Margaret who often visited my uncle in Ireland with her mother also Irish is also dead!!!!   My father said that lots of these cousins were in the US armed forces.  Cannot find that to be true.  I think that the uncle he stayed with had only one son.  Before the census were opened by translation, I found One Philly city directory and found that two cousins from a female Sheedy were living there.   One cannot ask for more of a mess than what I have.   Alanna    Thanks again.   Alanna --- On Sun, 8/21/11, [email protected] <[email protected]> wrote: From: [email protected] <[email protected]> Subject: Re: [IRL-CLARE] Ancestry Look Ups: To: [email protected] Date: Sunday, August 21, 2011, 12:38 PM If you think your John Sheedy lived in Chicago, there are only 6 in the 1900 census, 3 born in Ireland, 3 born in Illinois.
