    1. [IRL-CLARE] North Clare Parish records and cemeteries

    3. Hi all I am having the most fantastic trip in Ireland at the moment, but I wanted to let anyone who is interested in records and cemeteries in the North of Clare, that I have loads of information! I had previously started transcribing Corcomroe Abbey headstones (near Bellharbour, just north of Ballyvaughan) and have been back and taken photos of the new headstones and have found that a lot of the old headstones have been cleaned up and are easier to read, which makes my checking easier. I have done the same for Killeen Cemetery, near New Quay also. These graveyards lie in the parishes of Abbey and Oughtmama and now come under the parish of New Quay. People from the parish of Carron are also buried there. I went to Mass on Sunday last, which was to commerate the tragic boating tragedy at New Quay on 29 June 1969 in which 9 children lost their lives on a new boat on its maiden voyage. Two of these children were my father's first cousins. There is a lovely memorial build outside the church to commerate them. After Mass, I met up with siblings of these cousins and have had a wonderful time chatting with them, catching up and being overfed! I had already had a knock back from a priest in Tipperary, even though the priest in the adjoining parish said he would allow me to, but the records did not go back far enough. Wow! I was so excited! I asked the priest if I could look at the records and he was lovely, obliging and generous and would not take a donation. I had copied much information for the family names that I am interested in and those that I think have a connection, so if anyone would like me to see if I have information for their family, let me know. Tomorrow I am off to Ennis for another clan gathering! Best regards Anne
