Friends, We have received a request from one of our very strong Clare Roots members for help with regard to James Reddan death details. James Reddan, born in Ireland 1922, died in Birmingham, either in Sparkhill or Sparkbrook, brought back to Ireland 15th Oct 1970. Any help or guidance would be appreciated: Thanking you in advance. Larry.
Larry, The nearest I can get is a death registered at Birmingham in Sep-Dec qtr 1970 (Vol 9c Page 266) of James Patrick Birmingham given birth date 27/2/1924. You would need to purchase the death certificate from GRO quoting above references to get any further details (if they were known to the informant). Peter Booth (Sydney)
Friends, We have been asked to assist with the following request: You will be able to see from the attached that Ann has exhausted all know sources and her research sources are a guide to others seeking similar photo's. REQUEST: I am contacting you in the hope that you may help me in acquiring a photo of Dangan House in Quin. Olivia and Clara Creagh were the last landlords to live there, Olivia died in 1947 at Ennis. I have checked with The National Library, The National Archives, The land Commission who dealth with the sale of the estate in the 1920's and the Solicitors in Dublin who were the Creagh Solicitors but to no avail. Hugh Weir the Author of "The Houses of Clare Book" does not have a photo of the house. I have also checked with Clare Local Studies Library. Unfortunately I was unable to get a photo of Dangan House. My father Paddy Lawlor's family were tenants on the estate and this is why I would like to see a photo of the house. The House was demolished in 1948. I was wondering if anyone would have a photo of the house. I have checked with all the neighbours in the Dangan area and no one seems to have a photo of the House. I work as a Branch Librarian at Tulla Library, in Tulla and have a big interest in local history in the Quin and Tulla area. Many thanks. Ann McNamara Any help or guidance would be appreciated: Larry Brennan.
Ann and Larry, I don't have a photo but would be interested in finding connections with other tenants and even more about the Creaghs. The St. Johns in the early 1800s were tenants there. My gr-gr-grandfather Michael St. John from Quin Clooney (Dangan) married Mary (Mc)_Carty from Tulla in 1830 in the Parish of Tulla. He and some brothers worked on Creagh estate until they moved to Newmarket-on-Fergus in 1835-6. There my gr. grandfather John was baptized in 1843. Sponsors were Michael Dillon and Mary St. John (Moloney) Two or three St. John brothers then moved in 1844/45 to Kilmaley Parish, Town of Booltaigh. I was wondering whether Creaghs had land there also. They emigrated to England sometime in the late 40s or early 50s and from there in 1867? my gr grandfather and his new wife Margaret( McTeague) sailed from Liverpool to the U.S. although I can find no ship record. There was also a William St. John who owned land in Inagh, Townland of Bauntlieve--appears on Griffith Valuation (1855) The old house was still there but in disrepair--no occupants since 1990. Not sure of the connection with my family but descendants of William's family live now in Miltown Malbay. There were other families of St! . John in Cratloe (No. of Limerick) and Kilrush and Flagmount. No further record of them. Of course a Thomas St. John had land near Bunratty in the 1700s maybe connected also with McNamaras and Stackpooles. Maybe Creaghs knew them also and who knows maybe they fell on hard times and my Michael and brothers ended up on Creagh land at Dangan as tenants. Mysteries. Anyway I would appreciate any further info. anyone has. Thanks, Donald Patrick St. John ________________________________________ From: [email protected] [[email protected]] On Behalf Of Larry Brennan [[email protected]] Sent: Thursday, May 05, 2011 8:11 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [IRL-CLARE] Dangan House Quin Friends, We have been asked to assist with the following request: You will be able to see from the attached that Ann has exhausted all know sources and her research sources are a guide to others seeking similar photo's.
