With the messages recently re: Pyne/Pine, and Carmody and my inability to link people of those names to what known info I have I am going to just stay with what I have at present and give up trying to go further back. I "know" there were Carmodys' in and around Kilbrin, to Liscarroll,Cork, between 1820-50s. Lack of cooperation of the RC church, despite calls and letters to the church there has not got me any documentation per se, in two years of asking. Have been able to trace the great grandparents thru Brit. census of 1861-1901, with only Denis Carmody, b Cork,1825, and wife, Johanna Courtney b.1826 Cork. At some point after 1851 they went to Middlesex, England and got married there in Uxbridge, in 1857. Denis and Johanna had Fathers' named Patrick.,Johanna's Mother named Elen. Their children Patrick b. 1858, Johanna b. 1859, John b. 1862, and Denis b. 1864, all in Uxbridge or Harlington, Middlesex. Denis was a agricultural farmer,as I think his father before him, and I am guessing due to famines his family "supposedly' from Clare, moved to Cork for work and then on to England. Their sons Patrick and Denis remained bachelors, Johanna married a John Carter and I have traced her family down to present day. John came to the USA in 1889, joined the US Army in 1895-1901 after working as mason for the years between when he found work. He married a Hanora Mulcahy Sullivan, a widow about 1900. She had 3 Sullivan children, and then had John Carmody in 1902. All I ever knew from family lore was that the Carmody's started out from Clare and made their way to England, from my Father, John who died in 1966.I am the last of the line ( as far as I know) Many different people on the lists, have tried to help in finding , most sending the documentation of census, but no one able to match to a family in Clare, which was possibly Kilrush area. I have checke thru Griffiths, and tax rolls, but hard to make a match when you have no idea which town they came from or settled in while still in Ireland. The above info took 45 years to accumulate. I even tried to find the family thru Denis' in laws, and made a "possible" connection, but cannot match to anything else, yet. With the help of so many people, I was lucky to find what I did with suggestions, and their documents they took the time to find for me. I thank you all. With the last finding of a "possible" link of in law I almost flew over to "dig him up, and see what I could find, but have decided enough is enough. I will have to wait til I meet them face to face someday. But want you all to know I am grateful that so many have helped or tried to over the years, from Australia, England and the USA! Time to pack it in, I think! pat
