You have this list, the site As They Were which I have, http://astheywere.blogspot.com/ where you can contact me and I will post your request, various Rootsweb and Facebook groups... I doubt that we need any more. You have just to ask, and that applies to all, wherever you are. I think many of us spend half our time doing things for others... Hi Sorry about the email address 1 too many “a”, it should be http://home.iprimus.com.au/pjmg/clare/clareaustralasia Thank you for the "Is There More in Griffith's Valuation Than Just Names", suggestion. My mother’s family “Peter Power”came from Roscommon in 1840 so it will be handy. I will check the Clare Library site. Willa and Probate to 1925 are available at the Public Record Office Victoria online but none of my Maloney family are listed. Regards Jackie

    1. [IRL-CLARE] Two HAYES families in Liscannor, Co. Clare
    2. Hello List, For the record, and in case there are other HAYES researchers out there, I'll summarize what I know about some of my distant relations. My Hayes people were two families in and from Liscannor. FAMILY 1. In the 1901 census, John-reported age 55 and Margaret-48 Hayes and children John-27, Mary-25, Martin-21, "Ellon"-17, Kate-15, Patt-13, and Michael-11 were at 37 Liscannor. Both parents were recorded as "cannot read," so I assume that their and their children's ages might not be precisely accurate. I believe Kate emigrated to Lowell, Massachusetts, a textile-mill town, in 1902, where she lived and worked until Spring 1910 (Lowell city directories). She then must have traveled back to Ireland, because in October 1910 she returned to the US, destination Lowell, with Thomas Plunkett of Kingstown, Co. Dublin (the passenger lists says that she had been in the US before, 1902-1910). She married Tom in Boston the day after the ship docked there. Tom and Kate lived in Lowell for almost a decade. They eventually had six sons. In the early 1920s they moved to Brooklyn, New York, where they lived out their lives. Kate's brothers Martin and Patrick also emigrated to Lowell and also eventually moved to the New York City area where they lived and died. I believe her sister Mary emigrated to Lowell as well. In the 1911 census, John and Margaret Hayes were at 45 Liscannor and had only sons John and Michael still living with them. FAMILY 2. In the 1901 census, Martin-50 and Mary-40 Hayes and children John-18, Michael-16, Kate-16, Daniel-9, Margaret-7, Martin-5, and James-1 lived at 30 Liscannor. I suspect the father Martin here was a relation or perhaps brother of the father John in the first family. As in the first family, both parents were recorded as "cannot read." In the 1911 census, Martin Hayes, his wife apparently having died, was at 38 Liscannor and had daughters Annie and Margaret and sons Martin and James living with him. *** In a number of cases, I have difficulty untangling which children with identical forenames actually emigrated to the US. I suspect that some of these Liscannor Hayeses, when telling ship officials whom they were traveling to in Lowell or other places in Massachusetts, used the term "sister," "brother," "aunt," in a liberal sense (i.e. not exactly accurate), possibly to convince the officials that they had a close relative waiting for them at their destination. As a result, I haven't yet been able to pin down which Mary, for example, traveled to Lowell at which time. In both families, all the males age 16 and above were recorded as occupation "fisherman." *** I'll be interested to hear from anyone who has information on people related to these two Clare Hayes families. Thanks. PJ, in Texas

    3. Jackie, Sorry to prolong this thread. Although shipping is listed under PROV's heading of digitised records and online indexes, there are no online digitised images for shipping records like there are in NSW and QLD. Perhaps there may be digitised images for other record categories. Could also you check the URL for the iprimus site. It doesn't seem to work. Did you check the Clare library site for Emigrants? If they were Catholic, Google "Roman Catholic Parishes of Ireland". That will take you to the Irish Times site which details all available records and where they can be found. It also shows townlands within each parish. Unfortunately Clare records aren't on the IFHF site. You may get lucky if somebody has put some BDM data for your specific parish on the Clare Library site. Peter

    3. Larry~       We used the Dublin Valuation Office several years ago as part of our research for my husband's County Waterford ancestors.  There was a fee at the time of 40 Irish pounds.  Is this a different source you reference which has no fees or the same we used for a fee??  We have 3 more properties to do this but our families still reside on them.  It is the GV data to the time of purchase in 1878 we want to track.  Please advise.   Mary Ellen Chambers > > >

    3. Hi everyone The shipping records are available online from the Public Records Office Victoria site. From the home page go to Access the Collection and scroll down to PROV's digitised records and online indexes The information for my Maloney family has come from the death certificates of Patrick and Mary Maloney. Victorian BMD index, Trove online newspapers, Buninyong Historical society, Public Record Office Victoria Assisted British Immigrants 1839-1871 – Patrick and Mary MOLONEY arrived in January 1854 on the Wanata (I have not looked at the original). Patrick Maloney is also on a list of people from Clare coming to Australia http://home.iprimus.com.au/pjmg/clare/clareaaustralasia The parishpick on this list is Abbey so with the help of Google and Genuki I found that Abbey is the civil parish, Ballyvagham/Ballyvaughan the Poor Law Union, Burren the Barony and Munster the Province. I would like to find their birth and marriage records. I understand there was a fire in 1922 that destroyed records but is there any other way to find these records or other members of their families. Thanks Jackie

    3. Brenda, Have you actually used them?. I can't spot one that doesn't say "Index". I been there and used their indexes, but can't find images of original documents. I've asked archivists from NSW State Archives if they know of availability of the Victorian equivalents, I've asked senior people form SAG, I've asked State Library in person and by phone and I've checked their catalogue. I've even emailed Vic State Archives. I'll have to try again when I'm next in town. Peter

    3. Hi, Re I would like to find their birth and marriage records. I understand there was a fire in 1922 that destroyed records but is there any other way to find these records or other members of their families. No, the parish records were not in Dublin at that time and in most cases survive. It was the 1841 and 1851 census along with many invaluable manuscripts which were destroyed in the fire. Declan

    3. Some months ago I rang Public Records office in North Melbourne re shipping records. They informed me that the Victorian passenger list images were available in Sydney at State Library. Go to sydney library website search their catalogue "Victoria Passenger Lists". 1 has 390 microform, another 514 so obviously more than an index. You need to visit the library as data is not online. If you live in another state it'd be worth checking your state library. All records at PROV are free. The only Victorian records I pay for are BDM certificates. Regards, Brenda, Melbourne. 3. Hi Listers, Victorian images are available per micro film at my local library (Bendigo). The films have been bought by the local genealogy society and are available to the public on certain days. Other libraries may have similar arrangements, although I haven't any details of them. But it is certainly easier than forcing everyone to make a trip to the Public Records Office in Melbourne. I realise this is of no use to anyone from Ireland, but I know there are a lot of Australians on the Clare list. Best wishes on 26th January, Australia Day. Marg Watson. -----Original Message----- From: Peter R Booth Sent: Saturday, January 26, 2013 1:48 PM To: IRL-CLARE@rootsweb.com Subject: [IRL-CLARE] AUSTRALIAN IMMIGRATION RECORDS People need to be aware of the difference between Indexes and Digitised Images. About two years ago NSW released digitised images of original records for Assisted migration. And despite their site saying 1838-1896, there are actually images from 1828. Queensland Archives have recently done the same, but I'm not sure if they've finished. South Australia don't yet have images, but they have recently updated search facility on The Ships List. Unfortunately, unless something has happened recently, there are no online digitised images for Victoria. So I'm guessing you can only view them at Victorian Archives Office. For NSW, Ancestry has two sets of images. One is the same source as NSW archives, but the other has much more data. You need to look at both. Just don't believe their transcriptions. Almost every one I've seen has dittoed the top place of origin to everybody else on the page. Also note that until mid 1850's everything was centrally recorded in Sydney. So check NSW archives for early arrivals in Victoria or Queensland.
