Tony, When you say shipping records are you talking about transcribed indexes or images of original shipping lists? And are you using Ancestry of other free sources? Ancestry transcriptions are notorious for dittoing all locations for all entries on the same page. You really need to look at images of original documents. Assisted Immigrant records have a wealth of data. Unfortunately you don't give arrival dates and locations, so I can't look. Peter
Hi Brenda, That was a good suggestion, but unfortunately none of the adjacent parishes have records available on LDS films covering the appropriate period. Hi Tony, Google "Roman Catholic Records Irish Times" that will give you the map where you can find what available records there is for each parish. Try the adjacent parishes to Kilshanny as my family come from O'Briensbridge civil parish & Doonas & Truagh RC parish whose records don't start until 1851 but prior to this their townland was in Killaloe RC parish records. You may find an adjacent parish with earlier records that have been filmed by LDS. Hello, I am new to the list, but I am interested in finding any information on the family of Frank Rawlins and wife Annie, who came from Cork but raised their family in Co. Clare. Frank was a "games keeper". His children living with them in Ballycannan were Thomas, George, Rebecca and Annie. In 1934, there is a death record for Annie in Scarriff and two birth records for a George R. Rawlins and an Alan F. Rawlins. The maiden name of the mother is Ruddle. Frank Rawlins may have connected to the family of George Henry Rawlins and wife Harriet Orr of Co. Cork. Since I am descended from this line, I am actually looking to find others who may know more about our shared lineage. Thanks so much!! Bev W
Thanks very much for that sad news Diane. At least it clarifies the situation for me, but the prospects are getting dimmer and dimmer. I am having great trouble in finding my great great grandparents, Anthony McGrath and Ellen McNamara. Recent research has indicated that Anthony McGrath lived in Ballytarsna, Kilshanny, in the 1830s and 1850s (Ejectment & Griffiths records). They had at least five children between 1824 and 1838 (John, Susan, Jane, Patrick and Bridget - all of whom migrated to Australia in the 1850s). These shipping records have not helped me on this matter, except to confirm that they came from County Clare. Would anyone on the list be able to assist or advise me in trying to find a marriage record for Anthony McGRATH and Ellen McNAMARA in that area around 1815-25? Or baptism records for any of the children? Tony O'Grady Melbourne.
Good point. And if the bride came from a neighboring parish, that's where they would have married. We have just added men who joined the Irish Constabulary in 1857. To check them out go to: http://www.igp-web.com/IGPArchives/ire/clare/military.htm Regards, Christina http://www.igp-web.com/ http://irishheritagecooking.blogspot.com/
Unfortunately, it looks like the filmed Kilshanny records don't begin until 1869. My McMahons come from Templemaly - from Ballycorey to be exact. The family was Michael and Anne (nee Collins) McMahon. Five of their children came to the Australian goldfields - Thomas (married in Clare to Hanora Hartigan), Patrick, Mary Anne, Anne and Catherine (married and widowed in Clare to John O'Brien). I assume there would have been another son Michael, named after the father. Each of the Australian families had a daughter named Veronica which makes me wonder if there was a sister named Veronica who perhaps died in Ireland. I would love to hear of anyone tracing this family. I have much information on the family after settling in Australia, but know very little of their Irish background. Regards, Marg Watson, central Victoria, Australia. -----Original Message----- From: dlculhane@cs.com Sent: Tuesday, March 05, 2013 2:50 AM To: irl-clare@rootsweb.com ; IRL-CLARE-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [IRL-CLARE] Kilmaley and Templemaly The Irish Times site is great for figuring out where civil and Catholic parishes are: http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/fuses/civilparish/index.cfm?fuseaction=GetMap&CityCounty=Clare&UserID= In this case, they're both in central Clare. the 1922 Irish Military Census. You can see it here: http://census.militaryarchives.ie/ Forgive me if this has been posted already. Christina
We have added 1863+ and 1870+ for the Electoral District of Miltown Malbay. We had some great transcribing help from Gordon Corbett and Joe Quinn. These were all proofread to make as sure as we can be that the names were correct. If you want the image - please tell me the name of the place and street or townland as well as who you are looking at on the page. My email is chrisnina@gmail.com The search engine has included the valuations, so you can use our search engine. http://www.igp-web.com/IGPArchives/ire/clare/index.htm Add the word Valuation with a name to search these records. These are truly census substitutes in that you have the heads of household named and you can compare with another set roughly 10 years apart. Thanks, Christina
