    3. Hi Katie, you will have seen the message I sent to June... I am happy o pass on your details for you also, or if you would like to join the Facebook group, let me know and I'll send you an invite. For anyone wishing to join the Clare group on Facebook, you do have to be a member of Facebook. It is a closed group, so if you wish, you can have no other activity rather than the genealogical group. However, this is also a very good forum. 3. Chris: I would appreciate being in contact with anyone who might be knowledgeable about the families of Patrick Guthrie (died May 26, 1849 in Limerick and married to Bridget Cusick May 22, 1816). They were the parents of 9 children born between Nov. 1819 and Sept 8, 1837...the eldest a daughter (Mary) and the other 8 were sons: John, Dec. 14, 1821; Henry, April 1824; Thomas, June 30, 1826; Patrick, June 21, 1828 died Aug 14, 1828 in Ireland , probably in Kilshanney..County Clare; Patrick, July 9, 1830; Michael, Sept 28, 1832; William, Jan. 6, 1835 Died April 27, 1838 in Ireland probably in Kilshanney Parish Ennisdymion (?sp.) County Clare, Ireland and James, Sept. 8, 1837 . Patrick Guthrie, the eldest above, had a sister who married an O"Reilly. The had 2 sons and 3 daughters. Bridget Cusick Guthrie had 5 sisters one of whom (Ann) never married and who emigrated to Iowa and joined her sister Bridget and the rest of the Guthrie family. With ! the exception of the infant Patrick who died, the Guthries all emigrated to the U.S., some first to Illinois but all eventually to Iowa. My great grandfather, James Joseph Guthrie took his family from Elkhart, Iowa to Rocky Ford, Colorado in 1888. James Joseph had married Mary Ann O'Connor in 1866. Mary Ann was born in 1844 to John and Mary (O'Mara) O'Connor in Limerick and had a brother known as RJA or Reginald or Gerald who died during the Civil War. John O'Connor died in 1849 and Mary died in 1851. The children were then taken to Illinois, USA in 1855 (approx) by their aunt and uncle, Ellen O'Mara and Patrick Guthrie. I have probably given you much more information than you ever wanted, but I do hope you will be able to give me some suggestions and advice. I do not like to be on Facebook but would be happy for you to share my email with people who might be helpful and/or interested. Thank you. 2. I am really excited to see these names, my grandfathers parents were supposed to have been from there. His father Patrick Casey b. abt 6 May 1847 Parish of Kilfenora and his stepmother, Mary O'Grady b. 1844 in Kilshanny. They came to the U.S. in the early 1870's lived in Holliston, MA and Patrick worked in a Boot Shop and later as a farmer. I've never been able to locate any records on them from Ireland.

    3. Tony: I have O'Laughlins/O'Loughlins who moved from Co. Clare to the US (to New York state, then Minnesota and Wisconsin). Michael O'Laughlin was reportedly b. Sept 1828 in Co.Clare, possibly in Dalyschench P.O., Bodyke. His father was Patrick; name of mother unknown. The person who wrote down Michael's birthplace was not too reliable. But I feel sure he came from Clare because the 1860 U.S. Census for New York State says he and his first wife Ellen Torpy were both born in Co. Clare. --that is the only census I have found that gives the county in Ireland where someone was born. 1. Re: [IRL-CLARE] McNamara Considine
    2. A couple of things to keep in mind. People were more casual about their ages 100+ years ago. Sometimes they misremembered and sometimes they shaded it a bit. The difference between an 1877 and 1880 birth would have been considered insignificant. Also, Bridgets often were called Delia or Della. It's possible Stella was a misreading or mishearing of Della. Note the names of Delia's and Patrick's parents and siblings in the 1901 census and see if they are repeated in some of their children's names. Men were more mobile than women. Patrick might have moved to Kilkee to find work, met and married Delia, then set off for the States. Nil means none. Diane -----Original Message----- From: Patricia Hanenburg <thh4@sbcglobal.net> To: irl-clare <irl-clare@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wed, Jun 12, 2013 2:14 pm Subject: [IRL-CLARE] McNamara Considine Thank you all so much for your help! I'm relieved to have found this group as I'm only about a week into looking for my Irish family. I also located my g-grandfather Patrick Considine as residing with the Cornelius Murray family which explains the tight bond later with Thomas Murray (the Jesuit priest who married my parents) and cousins. I'm assuming Ellis Island had Patrick's age wrong (25 in 1905) as both the 1905 and 1920 census both have his being born abt. 1877. Hopefully they were correct with Kilrush as that is the only lead I have for his hometown, except verbally that they were from County Clare. I'm also beginning with the premise that Bridget/Delia/Stella was born in Kilrush or close by. Found a Patrick Considine, age 24, unmarried son of James and Ellen Considine in Fountain, Ennis Rural Clare, not Kilrush. (http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Clare/Ennis_Rural/Fountain/1069149/) No married Stella, Delia or Bridget Considine on Ellis Island search. Found a Bridget McNamara from 'Ireland' arriving May 6, 1895, age 18, going to New York. Doesn't say if married. Went through the 1901 Irish Census looking for Stella (none), Delia, Bridget(McNamara/Considine) and Patt, Patrick (Considine) with various spellings of last names. Found several in the 21-24 age group, but none in Kilrush. The only one that is a maybe is: Delia F. McNamara, Kilkee Town, part of (Dough) not married, age 22, industrial worker. Kilkee is close to Kilrush and I know one of my Irish cousins lived in Kilkee. I also know 'Bridget' was a 'nurse', at least in her later years. I will send away for the marriage cert and hopefully that will clear some things up. What is your educated opinion of the Bridget/Delia/Stella thing? Is this common? 3. Christina, You may have misunderstood my intentions, but you've proved my point. It needed information from multiple sources to get the complete picture. You've used Ellis Island, 1905 & 1910 US census, and NJ christenings. I looked at 1920 US Census. And every record has some little twist. Is it Stella, Delia or Bridget? What were the right birth years of children? It just proves you can't rely on only one source. They all need to be cross checked. I don't know if it gets any easier in Ireland. I've left it to Patricia to find them in 1901 census and hopefully follow up parents in 1911. She should also look at for births in Irish Civil Registrations on Family Search. Hopefully, she'll keep us informed on results. Peter

    2. Ennistymon filmed records go from 1870 to 1880, too late for you. The Clare Heritage Centre doesn't specify what marriage records it has for the parish, so that route would be a gamble. Ennistymon Catholic parish includes Kilmanaheen and Clooney civil parishes. The Tithe Applotments on the National Archives site, done about the time Bridget was born, shows 13 Leydens and 5 Carrigs in Kilmanaheen, and Griffith's, done in the 1850s, shows 2 Leydens and 4 Carriggs. You might print out the Kilmanaheen townland map from the Clare Library site and then plot out where the various Leyden and Carrigg families lived, as people usually married near neighbors. Or Austin may have lived in or near the town of Ennistymon, where Bridget worked. 3. Patricia / Christina, When you look at 1920 US census, you get a rather different picture. Both husband and wife went together to USA in 1905. All children were born in New Jersey. Thomas 1906 and Mary and Nora were 1908 (not 1906 as advised). Some of the other children were out slightly. I think 1901 census or Ireland should have the answers. Knowing both Patrick & Bridget were born c1877 will help. Their births should also appear on civil registrations on Family Search. Peter

    3. Christina, With experienced researchers like you and I, you immediately start asking all these questions. And then if you look too hard, you end up doing all the research for them and take away the thrill of discovery. If you have the correct marriage in March qtr 1905, it seems strange that just a few months later he's off on his own to USA. Further, look at the supposed births of children. Thomas is born 1906 and then twins Mary and Nora in December that same year. So in the space of some 22 months after marriage, she's had two pregnancies and her husband has been away in America for what must be at least three months. For the numbers to add up, she must have been pregnant when he left shortly after marriage, and got pregnant almost immediately again they next met, either in Clare or USA. Patricia might need to look at some US birth, migration and census records to see where children were born. It's not a case of just one look up. It all needs to be cross checked. Each record only provides part of the total picture. Peter

    3. Hi    I am looking for rela tives of Bridget Leyden b. 182 4 in Ennistymon. She was a school mistress in the poor house in 1843-45. I found minutes of her mentioned. She married Austin Carrigg & they came to USA NEW YORK 1847. I can not find her marriage. I am also trying to find her parents. Two of her sisters came to USA, Mary & Kate but I assume they got married but I don't know to who? I would appreciate any help. I understand no birth or marriage records were kept for these dates?
