    1. [IRL-CLARE] ROLL CALL McInerney Bridget
    2. Don Johnston
    3. G'day All, and Thanks Christina Hunt for this opportunity and too for being such an astute IRL-CLARE list administrator, your work is very much appreciated... My, Our Family's quest for many a year has been a cailín by the name of Bridget MCINERNEY Our Bridget, at an age of 23, whilst living with her nearest relative, a brother named Michael, was tried in court in County Clare Ireland for the crime of stealing a cow, which was alleged to be either exchanged or sold for a candle-stick from an un-named person, her court hearing was on June 16 1849, and she was sentenced to 7 years incarceration in Tasmania. Our Bridget was transported on the ship Earl Grey, departing Dublin, December 17 1849 with 236 other women convicts and 76 children for the 143 day voyage to Hobart in Tasmania, embarking on May 9 1850. Once arriving it is presumed she was placed into the Cascades Female Factory to await selection by settlers and free persons to serve out her time as quite possibly a servant. Hobart was a rugged place in those days, indeed there were 48 breweries alone in town, a coastal and important Port of the antipodes reached mainly by sea they had many boat-builders and many ship wrecks. Sadly that is all the information I can provide, after years of researching there's not any scant bit of information left that I can research, the pot is bare... Ggrrrr I'm hoping someone else might be researching this specific McInerney family [I think searching for Smith's might have been more rewarding - LOL!!] quite possibly a bloke called Michael McInerney who had a sister Bridget, who was transported to AU ??? Best Wishes All, thanks for reading my quest details... Don Johnston in Melbourne AU

I am working on the many new data bases that have come on line over the past couple of years to tie the above people to their families and relatives. Solid documentation is always at the heart of genealogical research and many times hard to come by. In addition I have ancestors from Kerry - "Conway" and Antrim "Akey" or maybe Scotch/Irish. My wife is a McCallister/McAllister - Scotch/Irish. I would love to visit Ireland again but know Scotland must come first -- when ever. This list is a daily read and enjoyment for me. Love to all. 3. Stephen McMahon was born in about 1803 and supposedly worked at a Utility Co. In 1837 he married Anne (Nancy) Liddy, b. 1810. in St Peter's and Paul's in Ennis (confirmed). Witnesses - Michael McMahon and Stephen Spellicy. Anne supposedly worked at a small shop on Main St. in Ennis. Stephen emigrated to the US in 1846, settling in Collinsville, Connecticut. Anne and 2 children followed in 1850. I am trying to find any trace of Stephen or Anne's parents. Dave Spang

    3. Hi Paddy Thank you for your interest. I had seen most of the postings on the forum and also many other interesting articles, one in particular early newspaper reports in Clare of trials, I think it was in 1848, shown on the site. Is there any way that I can view newspapers from Australia, prior to 1848 in Kilrush/Ennis regarding trials and police records of assaults and the like. I do hold a library card from the National Library of Australia [which I have trouble accessing these days] but I'll certainly have a go again if I can view these newspapers! Another message I noticed, I think from Paddy Waldron was early Kilrush early PR's for the Church of Ireland registers being held in Churchtown in Dublin by the RCBL, these records prior to 1827 when the Kilrush registers begin. Would anything be available in Dublin for R/C registers prior to 1827 do you know, please. 3. Hi Dale Many thanks for your thoughts. Yes I had thought of that but on John's wife's 2nd marriage she is shown as a widow, although this could also be a furfy as John was not a nice man and was in and out of gaol from 1853 to 1859 when his 2nd daughter was born in Sydney, then he disappeared....I believe he may have been in gaol again and possibly could have died there, but can find no records despite searching police gazettes, newspapers and gaol records. Searching the NLA Trove newspaper I found his trial which led to his original police record and showed he and his family's arrival into Sydney which I'd been searching for about 20 years. Thanks again for taking the time to reply. Joan in NSW Hi Joan, Just a thought re: death of John - perhaps they divorced and the wife then re-married. Divorce was not common but still a possibility. 3. Be aware that you cannot send Blind copies (bcc) to a Rootsweb list. You also *must* send from the email you are subscribed with. Attachments will not be accepted and will also stop your email. Because we are having Roll Calls I am sending these through, but I can miss them among the spam emails RW catches. I can't sent the attachments through though. If you have a website or Dropbox account, you can send a web address link to see a file if you wish. So, there are ways around the attachment problem. This is just an FYI about issues that can keep your emails from getting through to the list. Back to the Roll Call... Christina List admin

    3. My Roll Call is for information on any Corbetts in Miltown Malbay. There were only a couple of families there in the early 1800's and they are, hopefully, linked. They lived in Breaffa, just outside the village, near the sea. They became part of the Diaspora with my ancestor, Patrick Corbett, his wife Jane O'Connor and daughter Bridget coming to Durham City, England, others went to Australia and more recently America. There are still Corbetts in the area and I am in contact with them. Gordon Corbett Ellington, Northumberland

John's army record & marriage only showed his father's name and I can't find a death record for him in Australia between 1859 and 1865 when his wife remarried. The HALLORAN's & MCNAMARA's are from Tulla and I believe are from Rosslara found on the Tithes & Griffiths, but there again so many Halloran's and only Tulla mentioned on any records here in Australia [of their son Patrick & his wife and children, another child born on the voyage with further children born at Mulgoa, NSW] who emigrated as bounty immigrants in 1839. Kind regards Joan in NSW, Australia It is time for another Roll Call. **If you have never seen a Roll Call - this is where everyone tells who they are searching for all at once.** Please send in your Names and some identifying info like dates and places (if you know them). Fill as much as you can. ***Please put your surnames in the SUBJECT line of the email so people know what emails to look at. Do this before you write the message body because it is easy to forget to go back and fix the Subject line.*** This is also important for people reading the archives in the future. Digest users, Please, PLEASE snip the excess text out if you hit reply. Good luck!
