    3. Wow Maria, you have no idea how lucky you are that your family came from Clare. The Clare Library is the best in Ireland and they've done a tremendous job of making information available to researchers on line. We adore them. I do know that Jeanne is going to be happy to see that Foley in the subject line. Good luck! 3. Maria, Just some quick pointers (others on this list can give you a much better in-depth briefing): Take a few weeks off work, cancel all other commitments, go to www.clarelibrary.ie and fire up "Search this website" and type in your names and take it from there. You'll have a ball. Masses of stuff. Your Carrigohall is probably Carrigaholt, Myart is probably Moyarta. Jeanne Foley Dwyer, who is a very experienced member of this list and has at least one of your names and originates from that part of Clare, may want to jump in with more precise information. 3. Thank goodness, Ernene, that things settled out for you and that you can now post at will. We need to keep sharing what we find, between ourselves and with the modern-day equivalent of our East Clare community. I made a very interesting discovery yesterday, but I want to follow it up with some census digging today. So, watch this space for an apparent direct link between Kilkishen and Kilrush, at least for one of our families, one which you would not have suspected. 3. Brenda, At the Clare Library website go to http://www.clarelibrary.ie/eolas/guests2004.htm and look at Peter Beirne's entry in the visitors' book which reads ".....the placename 'Agherine.' To the best of my knowledge, Agherine refers to the townland of Aharinagh More in the parish of O'Briensbridge. Note that Aharinagh names two townlands, Aharinagh Beg (small or lower Aharinagh) in the parish of Killokennedy, and Aharinagh More (big or upper Aharinagh) in the parish of O'Briensbridge. Note also that the spelling of this townland varies somewhat over the decades and centuries. In the Tithe Applotment Books of the mid and late 1820s it is spelled Aherina (for the O'Briensbridge townland) and in the Griffith's Valuation of the mid 1850s it is spelled Aharinaghmore......" Then go to the 1842 OS maps at the Clare Library site and look at these townlands on the map and see whether they might correspond to the one you are looking for in the parish of Killaloe (which is right next door). 3. I have "inside info" on these people, passed to me by a Boston descendant of the involved Donnellan family. I can locate more exact info on them, but my memory is that this is the family of politically-connected Rossroe farmer shown in the 1901census. It is my understanding that Mark Donnellan, son of the great, late Francie (musician extraordinaire) is farming in Rossroe now, although Francie was born in Clashduff, civil parish of Clonlea. The Donnellans of East Clare are all connected - I suppose it is incumbent on me to do the chart, someday. In the meantime, below is what I have, which comes from the parish records for St. Mary's in Kilmurray, Sixmilebridge, courtesy of Fr. Willim McCormick in 1995. I keep this on top of my notes since I am interested in the 12 Jun 1847 marriage of Michael Connell of Clonlea and Catherine Liddy, which took place in the next parish north of Kilmurray (O'Callaghan Mills, with Clonlea equating to Kilkishen, which adjoins Kilmurray). My Micheal Donnellan was married to Ann Connell, likely in the 1820s since the birth of my gggmother Catherine occurred in 1826 (according to her old-age home record). 3. Brenda, This townland's spellings over the years has already been addressed by Peter Beirne of the County Clare Library, see below. To find this gem I inputted your spelling of it into the Clare County Library search engine and had the explanation within 30 seconds. I think the place of first resort on all such things is the library website, because Googling is an effective key to sort through the huge amount of historical information there. She says, "Excuse me, Sir - Can you tell me anything about this rod and reel?" He says, " Mrs., I'm completely blind; but if you'll drop it on the counter, I can tell you everything you need to know about it from the sound it makes." She doesn't believe him, but she drops it on the counter anyway. He says, "That's an eight foot one piece Shakespeare Greenheart with a 404 fly casting reel and 8-lb.Test line. I'll take it!" As she opens her purse, her credit card drops on the floor. "Oh, that sounds like a Bank of Ireland credit card", said he. As Bridget bent down to pick up the card, she accidentally let out a loud popper.
