    3. Hi Ruth I have Connor in my ancestry, one Elizabeth Connor, her father was John Connor and I believe they resided in or close to Ennis. I don't know if that is relevant as I don't know where Kildysert is. I am afraid I do not know any more about the Connors yet. I suspect that "Grate Grand" may in fact mean "Great Grand Mother". It is a common term of endearment in our family. Robert in Aus -----Original Message----- From: irl-clare-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:irl-clare-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Ruth Brooks Sent: Thursday, 5 October 2006 9:42 PM To: Clare Subject: [IRL-CLARE] Conners of Kildysert My husband's g.grandparents were Bridget Connors and Patrick Kennedy. She was born in Kildysert in 1824 and died 1894 in Cloncolman. A relative in Co. Clare sent us a map with the homes of a few Brooks and Kennedys marked and there is one marked "Bridget Connors born here, below which is marked Grate Grand (Grange?)". There have been a few postings recently regarding Connors, Connor and O'Connor and I'm wondering if anyone knows anything about Bridget or what Grate Grand signifies. We're told she was one of 7 sisters from Kildysert. Margaret and Hanna may have been two of the sisters and Michael a brother. Thanks for any help. Ennis Chronicle Mon 16 Nov 1795 Married last Saturday, Mr. William Joint of Limerick to Miss Hehir dau. of Mr. Tim Hehir of that city, excise officer. Names of the market jurors: Thomas Crowe, Charles Mahon, William Fitzgerald, Thomas Dulhunty, Maurice O'Connor, Patrick Sittred, James Roche, John Power, Michael Hickey, John Whitestone, Mathew Williams, Patrick Hickey, Richard Burk, TIM HEHIR, Terence McMahon, Samuel Sims, James Sexton, Sylvester Gorman, Foster Parsons, Hugh Spellacy, Matthew Power, John Loughnane, Hugh Brigdale." He was also listed as market juror in 1794 and 1797. Cathy Joynt Labath

    3. Dear Ruth, My computer with my family history will be down for a while, so I cannot get a lot of details. But I think that I posted my O'Connor's family on this list. There were at least 7 girls if I remember correctly. I posted in another post the name of the townland as a new location found. Hope that this helps. The computer has Windows 95 and a DOS availability on it. I use the DOS part for my PAF program and my PED program. The screen on the computer seems to be bad. The PED is an very old dog pedigree program. Alanna

    3. Hi, (Sorry i sent the last message to early - I hit send button by accident) Looking at the message below posted by Sharon The father Timothy died in 1847 therefore Catherine was a widow when Griffith's Valuation was compiled. At http://www.clarelibrary.ie/eolas/coclare/genealogy/griffiths/griffithh4.htm there are 4 Catherine's listed 1. Beneden, Clondegad, Kildysert. 2. Clonroad More, Drumcliff, Ennis. 3. Culleen, Kilkeedy, Corofin. 4. Formoyle Eighteragh (West), Inagh, Ennistymon. No.1 has a Mathias in the Tithes in 1826. No.2 has a Daniel in 1825 but also has a Tim Hehir with a Daniel in Lifford. No.3 has a Michael in 1824. No.4 Inagh parish has many hehirs but no Timothy in 1843. My guess is no.2 is where Timothy was from. 3. Very interesting. Thanks, Declan. I looked a bit into the Woulfe family, which was eventually connected to Flanagan. Sharon Carberry Explanation of the Tiermaclane connection, with a photo of the old big house. "The principal branch of this family were those of Teermaclane, near Ennis. These were descended from Stephen Woulfe, one of the sons of James of Corbally (dead by 1638), and are thus a branch of the Limerick City Woulfes." http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/mwoulfe/clarewou.htm National Archives - papers of the Woulfe Flanagan family shows property transactions involving Kilrush, Tulla, Dublin, Counties Sligo, Roscommon, etc. mid-1800s http://www.nationalarchives.ie/PDF/WoulfeFlanagan.pdf latter part of 1880s through early 1900s http://www.nationalarchives.ie/PDF/JohnWoulfeFlanagan.pdf. "Stephen Woulfe (1787-1840), an Irish judge of Ennis, was of the Woulfe family that settled in County Limerick as far back as the fifteenth century. They remained staunch Roman Catholics and he was one of the earliest Roman Catholic students to gain admission to Trinity College, Dublin. He studied for the Bar and became a good advocate taking an active part in Irish politics. He made himself remarkable by withstanding Daniel O'Connell, mainly in regard to the securities which were demanded as the corollary of Catholic emancipation. Stephen Woulfe was appointed Crown Counsel of Munster and made Chief Baron of the Irish Exchequer, being the first Roman Catholic to be so appointed." http://home.alphalink.com.au/~datatree/wolf%2024.htm The Woulfe-Flanagan Family of Co. 2. Alanna Scanlon
    3. Dear List, This is a long shot post. My family history computer is still down and will be for a while, so my information may not be exact right now. I have a female Scanlon whose name may have been Mary who went to RI. Her father would have been Martin Scanlan. I do not think that Martin lived a long time. His father seem to have done so. Anyway this female Scanlan married a Martin Van Buren Cass. They had two girls that I know about. I think neither married. This Martin's father was also a Martin I think and from Ireland. Martin Jr was Very involved in union politics over many many years. He also lived in MA. He was really old when he passed away. "Mary's" niece came to live with them. Bridget Scanlan was about 16. Bridget never married. I met her once when I was a child, I did not know who she was. I tried to contact the people in the area where Martin lived, but after all what he did and was known for doing, he is no longer remembered. Anyone recognize them? Thanks. Alanna

    3. Thank you Sharon!!! But I do not think that this John is mine. There is a John who came and went from Ireland, but I do not think he ever married. He died in Ireland. His father was Martin. Now Martin's father was Bartholomew Scanlan, but I have forgotten his wife's name right now [darn!]. That computer with the family history is down right now. My uncle Bernard before he died told me to be careful, as there were 4 Bartholomew Scanlan's in the area. No relations as I understand. My Batt's wife's name was something very unusual, as Nancy :O )))))) = laugh! I know that it was not Ellen! My Bernard said that he could find very few names of siblings, as they left for say the States and nary a word back. Maybe they could not read or write or had no time [interest] to do so. Thanks anyway!!! Alanna Sharon Carberry <sm8carberry@comcast.net> wrote: Scanlon, John, son of Bartholomew and Ellen (Roche) Scanlon, was born in County Clare, Ireland, June 15, 1850.
