Sharon, Well it seems about the only information I have on Patrick Ronan is that he was born in Kilrush in 1881. He was a builder/carpenter and among other things built a church and a school. He had a brother who owned a hardware store. This information came from Patrick's son Thomas Patrick Ronan, who we came to know about 5 years ago. Tom lived in New York but had retired to West Chester, Pa. He covered politics and government for the NY Times and lived in London for 9 yrs. as a foreign correspondent for the Times. He died at the age of 95 in 2005. Patrick and Catherine Brooks' children were John (Jack), Thomas, Kathleen, Elizabeth, Walter, Margaret and Rita, who became Sister Marie Clare. Sorry there isn't more . . . I have a lot more information on Catherine Brooks' family who were from Kildysert should anyone be interested. Hi Listers, Could not help but reply to Denise. Searching for ONLY 2 years - crikey! Don't give up. After 20 years I finally found out info on my County Clare grandmother. She was very elusive and I still can't find her entering Australia. Have always said "She must have been the best of the long distance swimmers". I live in hope. On the other hand, being on this wonderful List, I am now in contact with rellies in Ireland and only this year made contact with a second cousin living only a few hundred kilometres from me. You never know what's around the corner or where a little clue will be found. Best wishes and God's Blessings to everyone on the List for this Christmas and may the New Year of 2007 bring forth all the answers to our Family History queries. While the subject line labelling of this posting is appropriate, this is type of posting has not been made on this list in the 9 years that I have been here. I don't see any connection to Clare. Rather it is a general chat-type. We can all chat about all sorts of things, but this list is for Clare-oriented postings. Bringing up topics of purely personal interest runs the risk of offending people who do not share your perspective on such things. As such, it is not worthwhile. As it is, the reader can either dismiss it as silly or make a posting to react to what you stated on one of the many things you included, and that can descend into flaming. Please exercise restraint and stay on topic. I am sure that you, Chris, do not want to be harmful. As the header shows, you belong to other lists, where you can find an outlet for this kind of thing. Hi, Thank you, but unfortunately there's even less info on his marriage cert. It's blank for both his & Catherines parents & birthplace details. Denise, If you add htm to the end of the link it will take you there, that is http://www.clarelibrary.ie/eolas/coclare/genealogy/census_1866/census_1866.htm I was lucky enough to find my QUEALY / QUALEY and MACK family (at least those who remained behind in Ireland) there. You say no parents names are given on Martin Corbett's death certificate - what about his marriage certificate? As he was giving the information himself at that time (as opposed to the death cert.) it can be more reliable. Hi I have tried the link : http://www.clarelibrary.ie/eolas/coclare/genealogy/census_1866/census_1866. continually since receiving it but I get 'The page cannot be displayed' error. Since I joined the list I have loved reading about all the other families. I have learned a lot. The reason for me joining was to try to find info on my paternal gr grandad, so while I'm here I might put the details in and maybe someone can help me. His name was Martin Corbett. Age 23 he arrived in Melb Aust in Oct 1861 on the 'Empire of Peace' from Liverpool.( B 183 004 - Martin Corbet). He was born around 1835. On his death Cert it had County Clare Ireland as his place of birth. No parents names. He wasn't an assisted immigrant. He may have helped pay for a Timothy Corbett (Corbet) to come to Aust in 1865 (age 20). I know just about all of his life from his marriage to Catherine Hourigan in 1876 at Reedy Flat (now Batlow) her parents: Patrick Hourigan (Horrigan) & Ellen McGillicuddy. He died in Marrickville Sydney on 25th March 1922 at the age of 86. I have searched & searched for nearly 2 years & have just about given up. At one stage there I was even having dreams about it all. ( I'm sure there's a few who could relate to that). I have posts up on so many message boards I have forgotten most. I've written to libraries, shipping Co's etc etc. Searched untold lists - anyway... If anyone at all could help I would appreciate it so much. My funds are zilch at the moment which has restricted me somewhat. It has been really hard to not go keep going around in circles, but it did start to affect my home life. I will continue to read all the posts I get & if I have any info that could help anyone I will pass it on. Merry Christmas everyone :-) Denise Marsh Corbett ----- Original Message ----- From: "Patrick Casey" <pcasey@compuserve.com> To: <irl-clare@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, December 10, 2006 6:29 AM Subject: [IRL-CLARE] New Clare Library data set on line: Census of Kilfenoraand Kiltoraght Parishes, 1866 Those who follow the "What's New" list on the Clare Library website at <http://www.clarelibrary.ie> www.clarelibrary.ie will already have noticed that a meaty new data set is now online: an 1866 Census of Kilfenora and Kiltoraght Parishes drawn up in November 1866 by Fr. Judie, Thanks as always for the insider's knowledge on Chicago matters. I will contact you directly regarding how you might be able to access the subscription database for this newspaper. There is no general online access to it. I am typing out these obituaries because they fill in that time in the 1880s and 1890s, for which census records did not survive. I wish more mentioned particular places in Clare. Denise, you're not getting the .htm at the end of the link. Make sure it's: http://www.clarelibrary.ie/eolas/coclare/genealogy/census_1866/census_1866.htm and it will go through.
