    1. [IRL-CLARE] Fitzpatricks from Clare
    2. Patrick Casey
    3. Kevin, If you have identified a few cemeteries in Clare where they are buried you are half way to constructing your family tree. Identification of a cemetery gives you the name of a locality. The name of the locality gives you the entry keys to the 1901 census records, the 1855 Griffith and the 1820s-1830s Tithe Applotments. It's all downhill from then on. Unless they left Ireland in the 18th century, in which case it's uphill (unless they happened to be military, administration, judges or landed gentry). It was not stated very well. I know quite a bit about my Fitzpatrick family in Brooklyn, NY but very little about themin Ireland except that they originated in County Clare. I have identified a few cemeteries in Clare where they are buried but thats all. I didnt know what those maps were all about and was hoping that somehow they could be useful in my quest. Im now convinced that they will not help in my particular case so will move on to grasp at the next straw that comes along. Thank you for your interest. 2. Hi, Robert: We like to stay in Ballsbridge because it's walkable to the city center but it also has a DART stop and airport coach service. You'll find lots of possibilities on various Web sites. We stayed at the Shelbourne Townhouse last time and it was fine. Be prepared--Dublin is expensive! Diane

    3. Mona, You write "I would really appreciate some insider advice for my first trip to Ireland.........." to this Clare/genealogy list. Can we assume that the prime objectives of your first trip to Ireland are in the area of family history research ? If so, in which part of the country around the Shannon and/or in Clare ? If you could tell us more some members of the list could possibly supply ideas in a targeted fashion. 2. Patrick Casey
    3. Thanks for the thorough background on the Clare Planning maps, Larry. Farmers sons are not allowed to build on their own farms ? You failed to add that farmers are no longer allowed to cut turf from their own bogs to burn in their own fireplaces. Midnight ramblers in rural Clare may be disconcerted by encounters with furtive figures in pitch darkness in the middle of the bog. They are farmers illegally cutting a little of their turf for the home fire. The uniformed men standing on the edge of the bog with night vision equipment are the Gardaí, out looking for farmers illegally cutting a little turf for the home fire. I couldn't find a root map directory which offered access but I see that if one substitutes Killaloe for Kilkishen in the URL (i.e. http://www.clare.ie/Planning/DevelopmentPlanMaps/East_Clare_Settlement/killa loe.pdf ) you get a plan of Killaloe. Scariff and Ogonelloe don't work, however. 3. The Bridgmans of County Clare, by Shirley G. Straney Journal of the Genealogical Society of Ireland ISSN 1393 936X Vol. 3 No. 1, Spring 2002 http://www.familyhistory.ie/journal1.htm The Weekly Home News, Spring Green, Sauk Co, WI 20 Nov 1913 "Mrs. Patrick Bridgeman died at the family home in the town of Spring Green last Friday. Although Mrs. Bridgeman has been in poor health for several weeks, her condition seemed to be much improved, and her death came without warning from another stroke of paralysis. Her life has been a useful one and her loss will be keenly felt, not alone in her family, but among a large circle of friends and neighbors. Mary Miliken was born in county Clare, Ireland, seventy-two years ago and came to America when a child. She was united in marriage with Patrick Bridgeman April 23d, 1872, and since that time their home has been on the Bridgeman farm northwest of this village. To this union six children were born, all of whom survive. Deceased leaves to mourn her loss her husband, her children, John of Muscoda, Mike of Menomonie, James, Alice, Mary and Honora who live on the home farm; two sisters, Mesdames Cunneen and Ross; two brothers, John and Tim Curtin, and four grandchildren. The funeral was held st St. John's church Monday morning, the pastor, Rev. J. B. Brudermanns, officiating and the body was placed at rest in the Catholic cemetery. Relatives from a distance who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. John Curtin and son J. H. Curtin, of Madison; Tim Curtin of Marshfield; Mrs. Margaret Cunneen, Blue Mound; Mrs. Johanna Ross, Brookfield, Illinois; John Bridgeman, Lenox, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. John Bridgeman and two children, Muscoda; Mike Bridgeman, Menomonie." 3. Learn how to change a tire on a car before you go (if you are renting a car). Renting a car is the best way to get around especially if you aren't in the city. I stayed at B&Bs the whole time and really loved it. 3. LOL! I won't be renting a car this trip. I plan to stay in B&Bs, too, as I have always had good experiences in them. Thanks.
