(The Encumbered Estates Act of 1848 and 1849 allowed for the sale of Estates which were burdened with debt. There was no protection for the tenants.) These are not full of names. Gaurus has the most tenants, but if you are interested you can check it out at: http://www.igp-web.com/IGPArchives/ Click on CLARE and then Land. Regards, Christina

    3. Dia dhuit Anne, Oh, how envious I am of your trip to Ireland. I had a month's trip in August 2006, but because of an old foot injury which resurfaced before I went to Ireland, I probably will never be able to go again, barring a miracle! My folks were evicted from East Clare near Killaloe (Ballycuggaran, Marcus Patterson Estate) in 1847. My great-great grandparents Maurice DINAN and Catherine HARTNEDY or Hartneady, with six children all under 8 years of age emigrated, starving, penniless, on one of the worst of the 'coffin ships' from Cobh (Cork). Four of the original 6 children died, all in Canada. Timothy age 2 died on Grosse Ile, Twins Mary and Bridget age 5 at Kingston and Toronto, and the infant John a few years later, all of Typhus contracted on board ship. Michael age 8 in 1847 is buried in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Rochester New York in an unmarked grave (with his wife Anne, surname unknown as yet). I am hoping to place a proper headstone soon, and to get the U.S. government to give recognition to his Civil War service too. In the 1901 Census, Michael said "no surviving children". I have not been able to find any information. Michael died at age 65. Maurice and Catherine had more children in Ontario. I stuck to East Clare when I was in Ireland and have a copy of Maurice and Catherine's marriage in St. Flannan's Church in Killaloe in 1838. I also have copies of Baptisms for the oldest 4 children in O'Gonnelloe, East Clare, "St. Mary, Star of the Sea". If you happen to find any records which you think might be helpful, I would be very grateful. I thank you most sincerely for your very thoughtful and kind offer, even though my folks were from East Clare not North Clare, you never know what might turn up. I did not go to Ennis, and I'm wondering if there would be copies of the Eviction order, or Workhouse records (Scariff, I think, for the younger children). I am starting to write my great-grandmother Catherine's story. She died in June 1930 at age 87, and came here at age 3. If you come across books, new or used book stores, I would appreciate having information on these things too, such as names and contact information. I already have a large Irish library and would be happy to check for your family names in return. Go raibh mile maith agat! Beannacht! Maire (Mary) P.S. Your letters were fascinating to read! Bravo! P.P.S. Of Catherine's family, the HARTNEDYS, I have found much more information than for the DINANs. Several brothers of Catherine went to the U.S.A, and some ended up rich and famous because of organizing the coal miners in Pennsylvania. Some of her sisters came to Canada( maybe with Maurice and Catherine or maybe earlier). Some married in Ontario. A few of them later joined their brothers in the U.S. Their parents and one brother also came to Canada. This brother (Timothy) served in the British army for awhile, and eventually retired, died and was buried in Ottawa. In Canada he worked in the Post Office. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of [email protected] Sent: July-07-11 3:00 AM To: [email protected] Subject: IRL-CLARE Digest, Vol 6, Issue 120 **REMEMBER...When replying - be sure to change Subject heading and snip excess text. I had previously started transcribing Corcomroe Abbey headstones (near Bellharbour, just north of Ballyvaughan) and have been back and taken photos of the new headstones and have found that a lot of the old headstones have been cleaned up and are easier to read, which makes my checking easier. I have done the same for Killeen Cemetery, near New Quay also. These graveyards lie in the parishes of Abbey and Oughtmama and now come under the parish of New Quay. People from the parish of Carron are also buried there. I went to Mass on Sunday last, which was to commerate the tragic boating tragedy at New Quay on 29 June 1969 in which 9 children lost their lives on a new boat on its maiden voyage. Two of these children were my father's first cousins. There is a lovely memorial build outside the church to commerate them. After Mass, I met up with siblings of these cousins and have had a wonderful time chatting with them, catching up and being overfed! I had already had a knock back from a priest in Tipperary, even though the priest in the adjoining parish said he would allow me to, but the records did not go back far enough. Wow! I was so excited! I asked the priest if I could look at the records and he was lovely, obliging and generous and would not take a donation. I had copied much information for the family names that I am interested in and those that I think have a connection, so if anyone would like me to see if I have information for their family, let me know. Tomorrow I am off to Ennis for another clan gathering! Ennis records are on line, and don't show William's baptism in 1861-63. Quinn baptisms are on LDS film 0926096. Doora baptisms not filmed by the LDS; you'd have to pay someone to search the film at the National Library or Clare Heritage Center. I'd suggest you search Quinn's first, if you haven't already. 2. Anne Morahan
    3. Hi all I am having the most fantastic trip in Ireland at the moment, but I wanted to let anyone who is interested in records and cemeteries in the North of Clare, that I have loads of information! Best regards Anne

    3. Mary Ellen, I will be in Ennis for a few days from tomorrow, so if you would like me to take any photos for you of anything, please let me know asap. The Drumcliffe cemetery site on Clare Library has photos attached and burials began in 1789, so there is agood chance she is buried there. 2. Faye, you may have done this already, but I checked the Irish Times site for the status of parish records in Ennis and Quinn parishes, as well as Doora, which is between them. 3. I can't answer all your questions, but my husband's side had Catholic burials there, in the area of 1928. Hope that helps. 3. Dear Ann, I too am researching the Cullinan family from Co. Clare. My direct ancestor, Arabella Cullinan, born 6 Jan 1818, came out to Victoria Australia from Ennis, arriving in 1839. I have her parents names, John Cullinan and Bridget O'Brien, I know she was Protestant, a schoolteacher and that her mother had a shop in Ennis. But this is all I presently know. Your Michael, and my John, could have been brothers. There are a few Cullinans buried in the Drumcliffe Cemetery, Ennis. http://www.clarelibrary.ie/eolas/coclare/genealogy/don_tran/graves/drumcliff_old_graveyard_ennis.htm Kind regards, Terrence On 4/07/2011 7:19 AM, Ann Toll wrote: > I am looking for a Michael Cullinan/Quinlan who married Mary Bray is there anyone researching this family. > > Their children were > > Patrick > Thomas cir 1813 > John cir 1815 > Timothy cir 1817 married Mary Anglum/Anglim > Michael cir. 1822 (married 1845 in Ireland) Mary Cooney cir. 1821 > Ellen cir 1823 > Andrew cir 1824 > James cir 1827 > Ann > Mary > > Most if not all of the family went to Australia. > > Hoping someone knows something about this family. > > Ann > Victoria > Australia > ====================================== > Remember to stay on Topic. > If you have a problem with anything please contact the list admin [email protected] > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message >
