He was born 1815? They are the parents of my grandfather Their children were Michael b1846 he married Mary GILLICK, Patrick, Margaret, Ellen, Ann & Susan. Jeannie Have a look at the Irish Genealogical Projects site, Clare section. www.igp-web.com/IGPArchives/ire/clare/index.htm I transcribed the 1839 parish census (part) of Miltown Malbay and recall the name Marrinan. Jeannie, I am a member of one of the branches of the St. John family that was present in Clare in the 19th century. The Inagh (Bauntlieve) William St. John is the only one to own land. However subsequent members of his family and close relatives did move to Miltown Malbay. John St. John is still there--we visited him and his father in 1994. There is a record of the baptism in 1866 of a William St. John son of a William St. John, M.D. and HELEN MARRINAN. It's not the same family as the other St. Johns as far as I can tell. No William around the age of 35 appears in the 1901 Census. However, in the 1901 Census for Miltown Malbay there is a Margaret Marrinan, 80 yrs old, widow a domestic servant on Chapel Rd in M.M. This is a great idea! Now can people suggest organizations that might appreciate family histories (not simply trees) and make them accessible to researchers without hefty fees? Diane

It is with great excitement that Clare Roots Society can say that the 14,000 plus records transcribed from the Memorial/Mortuary cards are now online... See http://www.clarelibrary.ie/eolas/whatsnew.htm and http://clarelibrary.blogspot.com/2011/08/clare-roots-society-memorial-card.html and http://www.clareroots.org/index.php/clare-gene-news Congratulations and sincere appreciation to all involved, with a special Thank You to all the families who so graciously permitted us to share the records of their loved ones.. We hope that this will be seen as a lasting memorial to those who are mentioned, as well as being a great source of data for researchers. This sprang from an idea touted by Paddy Casey... and followed through with so many involved. It took much organisation through the schools, through Clare Roots Society members and the children who collected the cards... the good folks who searched through drawers and cupboards, etc. to find the cards and then entrusted them to those who scanned them... before they were all returned... Then all copies were sent worldwide to a large number of volunteers who transcribed them, back go to their co ordinators for checking and compilation... back to CRS and then presented to Clare Library to upload... Use them well... and well done to all involved. Chris Goopy [email protected] http://www.flickr.com/photos/crissouli/ http://thatmomentintime-crissouli.blogspot.com/

Nick Barratt is a TV presenter and commentator. He is editor in chief of Your Family History magazine and chief executive of Sticks Research Agency. He was the original genealogical consultant and lead researcher for BBC’s show Who Do You Think You Are. Dear Helen, We have been in contact prior about the family, as I have a Arabella Cullinan, (born 1818) with parents John and Bridget. Your Bridget could well have been the granddaughter of my John and Bridget. While in Ennis back in October last year, I tried to find information on the John Cullinan, a publican in Mill St (Parnell St today) in the 1824 trade census. I was directed to the bar on the corner of Parnell St. and Cornmarket St's, the informant telling me it was once a Cullinan Hotel. Today the bar has the name O'Keeffe's Bar. I have photos if you're interested. Next door, in the same building, is Michele O'Keeffe, Solicitor. When my Arabella arrived in Australia, she put on the immigration form only her mothers name in the parents space, Bridget Cullinan- shop keeper- Ennis. The other thing if interest, was her religion ; Protestant. Her husband, Patrick Mulvihill was a Catholic. Ballyknock is close to Ennis and close to Dysert, where my Mulvihill's came from.
