Hi, regarding the Irish Times site, no, I pay nothing because I use only the free portion of their service. When doing a Griffith Valuation surname search, they will tell you how many entries were recorded for the surname throughout Ireland and the number in each county and major city. They then will charge you to provide more detailed information, i.e. the townland each person listed was situated in. I purchased a CD index to GV a few years ago so I look up the townlands there. Free GV townland information is becoming more and more available on the web. Maybe in time the Irish Times will stop charging for that information. If you need a few lookups, let me know. Please don't ask for all the Patrick Murphys. It would take months to do it.
