Subject: My County Cavan, Ireland Ancestors Surnames: Denning and Kiernan, Doughty and Smyth Hello, I am the great-granddaughter of Michael Denning, b. abt. 1835 in Kilmore, Virginia, County Cavan Ireland. Michael married Catherine Kiernan abt.1861 in Killinkere. Michael and Katherine had 12 children: Mary Ann, abt. 1862 Bridget, May 16 1864 Phillip, July 21,1866 Felix, October 28, 1868 (my grandfather) Catherine, abt. 1870 Frances, September 25, 1872 Patrick and Michael, March 1, 1875 Anne, Aug 14, 1876 I visited Ireland last year and acquired copies of the birth & baptismal record of my Great-grandfather Michael's children. Their son Felix Denning b. October 28 1868 was my grandfather. Felix abt. 1902 married Margaret Mary Doughty, b. September 13, 1885, in Kilmore, the daughter of Mary Smi(y)th and Joseph Doughty. Margaret's parents were deceased before 1900. She had three sister, Roseanne b. 1883, Mary Katherine b.1889, Elizabeth b. 1894, also a brother who died in infancy or early childhood. Felix and Margaret had 12 children: Kathleen, b. October 02,1904 Michael, b. July 07,1906 Mary, b. September 12,1908 Joseph, b. August 15,1910 Roseanne(Rose), b. April 01,1912 (my mother) Margaret, b.. August 14,1914 Frances, b. June 16,1916 Phelim, b. November 01,1918 Patrick, b. March 9,1920 Anna Veronica, b. February 12,1923 Charles, b. January 01,1924 James, b. April 17,1926 My mother will be ninety two soon, she and her sister Anna Veronica, now 81, are the only two living. I obtain much of the information I have from Cana House, Farnham Street, Cavan. I would love to know more about my Great-grandfather and his ancestors before him. Names and dates of birth, marriage, death, where they came from, lived, and are buried. The information is very hard to get and I am told many records were destroyed. I have written to the Kilmore Diocese, they referred me to Cana House. If there is anyone with any information on the Denning, Kiernan, Doughty and or Smyth Families I would very much appreciate hearing from them.
