    3. Meg, Have we talked about your Cootes together before? I have letters from a Maggie Coote and a Janie Coote that mention a Tom. These letters were sent from Drumacarrow, Bailieborough, to my Drury family members in Canada and one is dated 1901. I can't remember if I've sent you copies of these letters or not. I have included the text of the letters below; I can e-mail you images of the originals if you would like. I have transcribed them exactly as written (spelling, grammar, capitalization, and punctuation as on original). The one from Maggie was written to Jane Drury (born Jane Bell, married Henry Drury, lived in Monaghanoose, Bailieborough; emigrated to Canada between 1894 and 1901). The one from Janie was written to William Henry Drury (son of Jane and Henry, born Monaghanoose, emigrated to Mitchell, Ontario, Canada before 1894 with another brother and sister). Kimberley Walters 13 Feb. 1901 Drumacarrow Bailieboro Co. Cavan My Dear Mrs. Drury, You must excuse me for not answering your letter sooner as I had a cold & was not very well. We have very cold weather over here we had a little snow but it did not stand very long we have had nothing but rain this winter That must have been a very nice bird that George caught. I showed the wing to [J]emmy (Gracie) Clarke & he knew what it was at once. [p2] he often heard Peter talking about them. Martha is very thankful to you for it. I must tell you that Bella Fisher had got married to Davie Anderson and Maggie Brady to Long [J]em. Carroll. That is all the important news about marriages I have. I suppose you will be sorry to hear of one of your old neighbours being dead & buried Poor [J]emmy Hughie he is dead & Willie Lynch told me to not forget but tell you as you were very near neighbours. [p3] The rest of the old neighbours are all well & glad to hear yous are doing well. also we are glad to hear of Janey & family being well. You must be very busy when you attend to all the hens you have & also the pigs I wonder you are able to stand all that work. Perhaps some of us might take a notion of going out there. I only wish I was out there myself as I am tired of this country it is not mending one bit of anything it is [p4] getting worse all they care for here is the Public house. I must conclude this time as I had not much news & indeed it was near time of me to answer your letter hoping to find you all well as for myself I have got a great cold. So good Bye for this time with Love from all to our old neighbour & frind and remain yours truly Maggie Coote P.S. Mickey Rochford is at home at present & going to stop at home. Drumacarrow Bailieboro Co. Cavan Dear William, Old Coote is too lazy to answer your very long welcome letter so I am taking the opportunity Anyhow you cannot blame him as he could not see except he got an extra pair of eyes I am very glad to hear of you doing so well over there [p.2] I expect to soon hear of you joining your hands in the bands of wedlock. Is there many nice gorls over there or how do you like them I suppose they would be smart hags [bags] if their heels were pared What sort are the boys or could you pick a nice fellow for me if I were over there. If not perhaps you could get 2 ugly ones. Excuse me for taking on to answer [p.3] Father Toms letter you may think me horrid for interfering in his business but I thought it better than keeping you watching all year as Tom would write to nobody. I hope you will write a smaller letter next time as it took me too long to read the last one. It was so infernal long. I must bid you a fond adieu so don't be lonely & see & be good to yourself. [p.4] Please tell George & James I was asking for them Good Bye from Your sincere Well wisher And write soon Janie Coote Drumacarrow Bailieboro Co.
