    1. [IRL-CAVAN] Tully in County Cavan

    3. Thanks Susan for the ideas on expanding my search. One Andrew Tully that they sent me would have been 29 in 1833 when my Patrick Tully was supposedly born, which makes it a good possibility. He was the son of Thomas Tully of Ballyhaise, household #30. How do I go about expanding on this information now? I also decided to look at the family that Patrick Tully married in to here in Illinois. His wife was Mary Leonard, who was the daughter of Patrick Leonard & Margaret Smith. They all settled in a little farming community in central Illinois with Tully, Carroll, Daugherty and Smith families all sponsoring each other in baptisms, weddings, etc. I have no info on the Leonard family and the only tidbit of info that I have on the Smith family is an obit written about John Smith, who I believe is the brother of Margaret Smith. It says in there that he was the uncle of James and Patrick Smith, the Leonard daughters and the Tully children. So, now I'm going to see if maybe I can find the Smith family in County Cavan and maybe connect the Tully family that way. --- Any ideas on how to do this? I am not too good at using the Family History website in finding anything. maybe you can coach me on that? It should have. Did any of those records have a father Andrew? Have you found Patrick's wife's father's name? Who are the other Tully names listed as godparents in Patrick's children's baptism records? These would likely be close relatives, siblings, or cousins. Sometimes even a parent. You would want to find out where the church records would be for someone from Bailyhaise and Drung - then see if there are Tullys recorded there, and try to figure out the family. These records might be on microfilm at the LDS FHC. (Need further info?) This is just a start. They sent me several Patrick Tully's baptized in the 1833 timeframe (which I have figured is when he was born because when he died in 1902, the small news obituary said he was 69 years). > > Patrick's oldest son was named Andrew, and they said there is a possibility that Andrew was named after his grandfather - that is the first possible lead of an ancestor's name that I've had. They found two Andrew Tully's in the 1821 census, one in Bailyhaise and one in Drung. So, now I have some possible leads, but still don't know how to chip further on this giant brickwall of mine. This is my first time on this list and I hope there is someone who can help me. I am doing my father's family tree and I would like to find some information about my G.G.Grandfather.This is what I have so far. My Father was Thomas Reilly born Bendigo, Vic Aust. Granfather was Bartholomew Reilly born Bendigo,Aust. G.Grandfather was Terence Reilly born around 1860 . His death cert shows his birth place as Ballyjamesduff, County Cavan, Ireland. His parents were Bartholomew Reilly and Mary Smith and I believe they were farmers. I would like to find more information about them and or any siblings. We are all Catholics, if that helps. My children bought me a trip to Ireland in early 2008 for Christmas and I would like to find out if there is any family that I would be able to contact before or maybe when I am there. By the way my name is Maureen (Reilly) Cattanach, and I live in Hoppers Crossing , Victoria, Australia. Thank you and hope to hear from you. Maureen. ------------------------------ Message: 8 Date: Fri, 29 Dec 2006 22:19:58 EST From: [email protected] Subject: Re: [IRL-CAVAN] Reilly Family To: [email protected] Message-ID: Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII" Maureen I am also doing research on the Reillys from Cavan. Let me know if you come across Owen and Ellen (Elinor) Reilly, a son John, who immigrated to New York City about 1849. I will keep your family on file and if I come across anything pertaining to them I will let you know. Happy New Year.
