    1. [IRL-CAVAN] Subject Lines
    2. Hi everyone: I believe it's time to explain how to respond to emails and posts on the list. I, of course, am on AOL, but I'm sure that every mail system allows for you to change the subject lines of your emails. If they don't, I believe the best system is to save the mail lists email address for sending mail, in your address book. Please place the following address in your address book: [email protected]_ (mailto:[email protected]) Please do not just hit reply and have the entire issue show up in your message to the mail list. It takes quit a bit of server space to send the entire issue back to the list, plus it makes for lots of scrolling to the reader of the issue. If you want to reply with a copy of a particular post, please investigate your copy and paste method for your mail system. You should be able to highlight, copy and then OPEN a new email. Then paste the post you are replying to into the new email body. You can also then type in the subject line the same subject line that was in the previous post that you are responding to. Then insert your response post to that email. Then click in the SEND TO box. If you have saved the List Email Address in your address book, you should be able to just start typing, I-R-L and the correct address should show up in your SEND TO box. Now, if you are sending a brand new post, it is not appropriate to just hit reply! That send the entire digest issue back to the list if you are subscribed in digest mode. DO NOT DO THAT, PLEASE! For a new email post with a new subject line, just open a new email message. Then begin typing the Cavan list address, I-R-L.... and the address should appear. Then type in your new subject line, and in the body type your question or whatever you are wanting to communicate to the list. If you want to reply directly to the individual who sent a post to the list, please highlight, copy and paste their post into a new email. Then type their email address into the new post, with your message in the body and send directly to that individual. YOU MUST PAY ATTENTION TO HOW YOUR EMAILS ARE ADDRESSED. Some people often hit SEND NOW without checking or assuming that they know exactly to whom the email will be mailed. PLEASE KNOW WHO YOU ARE SENDING YOUR EMAIL TO. You will save space on the servers, and not provide others who are still on dial up or pay for their services by the sizes of emails that they get, with much more that is unnecessary. Everyone who writes an email to the mail list knows what they wrote. It is also often not necessary to include an individual's entire message back to the list. If you are responding to just a small piece of someone's email, just highlight, copy and paste that portion into your email. It saves space, time, and in some instances money for others. Thanks.
