Hi all, I am searching for a birth in Cavan in 1864. Can anyone tell me what information I would find on the 1864 index of Quarterly Returns? I notice there are 11 rolls of film in the other 1864 series. Can someone enlighten me what the 'v' stands for? Regards Julie Searching WEIRS from Ashfield, Cootehill, Kildrumsherdan
Julie, the index will only list the surname and given name, the Poor Law Union (PLU) where the birth was registered, the volume and page number of the original record. The year and quarter are for when the birth was recorded, not the actual birthdate. It will look like this: Births Cullivin Mary Castleblayney v11 p417 You would then have to either order the film for that year and volume, or order a photocopy from the Dublin GRO.
