Cavan, in September, especially to the town of Ballyconnell, to do some research but also to have a look around the area. Can anyone who has been there to do reseach and the tourist thing give me some hints/tips on what to see and do. My Great Grandfather, George Wilson left Ballyconnel in 1856 to travel to Australia and it is his family that Iam trying to find something out about. TIA Roberta In beautiful sunny Queensland The County Cavan Research Centre, email address [email protected]_ (mailto:[email protected]) , were very helpful to me in my search for ancestors who were around Bailieborough. You may find the office on the internet by entering 'county cavan research centre' in your search. This office is one of the government-sponsored offices set up for each county. It takes some months in order to realize results after your initial agreement with the Research Centre. That said, I found this group to be a great help and critical resource to progressing further. There is much information held locally in various places that one simply cannot find outside the county. We travelled to Armagh and Cavan in 2005, and went by the Centre to say hello and ask a few questions. My key contact was out on a research task, but her colleagues were gracious and worked on the questions I had. It's worth a visit to establish contact even if you don't have a file working with this group. Super people. Regards.
