    1. [IRL-CAVAN] Map Question - Discovery Series 35
    2. Patrice Schadt
    3. I recently purchased a copy of the Discovery Series Map, #35, covering Cavan, Louth, Meath and Monaghan. I am trying to look at various locations on the map and see if it is reasonable to believe that while my family lived in one place, how likely would it have been that there would be a relationship with a family in another area. For example, my Kiernan and Fitzsimons family were from Kilmore, and I find a marriage record for a person I believe to be a sibling, but it shows they reside in Coratinner, or Shamaqwerty or even Drumagolan. On the map it appears that these locations are in fairly close proximity to one another. My map skills being what they are, prompt me to ask for some clarification. The legend shows 1:50 000. Is that 1" = 50 miles or kilometers? What do the three 0's mean after the fifty? Is each grid 50 square miles or 50 square kilometers? I believe that Kilmore is part of Killinkere Parish and Bailieborough PLU. However, several times on different ancestor charts I find Kilmore referred to as follows: Kilmore, Virginia, Cavan, Ireland. What is the significance of Virginia? Any help or insight is appreciated. Thank you for your time. Patrice Houck Schadt
