    3. Since this man's birth is indicated to be in 1876 and the INDEX films for Irish births is at the local FHC, I looked in the 1876 film for it. Didn't think there'd be many GALLIGANs, and that's true....and the birth is listed ! 1876 Births, Thomas Joseph GALLIGAN....Cavan...12-101 Translates to Thomas Joseph GALLAGAN's birth was registered in Cavan parish, volume 12 page 101. That film containing the original handwritten registration entry is available to rent at any FHC if someone would like to view it. Film #255958 is 1876 births, volume 12. It has literally thousands of entries of births in Ireland, all recorded in volume 12. If you don't have the Index to give you the volume and page number, it will be a long haul looking through all 20 volumes [25 microfilms] of actual birth entries in 1876 to find his if you don't fall asleep first or find your wallet getting thinner at US5.50 per film. His date of birth, townland or residence name will be given, his mother and father's name plus their residences are given. An informant's name is also there, its usually the father, sometimes the mother and occasionally someone else who was present at the birth. I have no information on the widow.
