    1. [IRL-CAVAN] 1855 Birth, Glasgow for a Cavan McCABE
    2. Meg Greenwood
    3. While doing some research for a Glasgow mystery, I was wandering about the 1855 Scotland Births microfilm. The questions asked of the Informant for a Birth that year, its what we wish was asked every year. However, the questions asked were about halved beginning 1 Jan 1856, a few were re-instated later but 1855 is still the best Registration year ever for Scotland. For a Birth, the age, occupation, birthdate and PLACE were asked for each parent. Many times I see Irish counties written. In this one, the parents were both from Cavan county : 1855 Births, Central District, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland Entry # 171 : Elizabeth McCABE born Feb 25, 4:50pm at 75 High Street, Glasgow to James McCABE [Mason's Labourer, 30y born Cavan Ireland] and Elizabeth McCABE ms TRAINER [her 2nd child, 30y born Cavan Ireland]. They wed 1850 in Glasgow and had 1 girl deceased at this date. Informant was the father who ws present at the birth and signed [X] witnessed by William BROWN and William ALCORN. Registered 28 Feb at Glasgow. Thomas Davidson, Registrar. I am viewing a microfilmed image of the official Registration entry made at the local GRO in the Central District of Glasgow. Its the same document you'd get if you went to New Register House in Edinburgh. Will Post these as I find them. This is all the information in the entry, I'm not related to the McCABES. Can send JPGs [2 images per 1855 entry] if requested. MegG in Oklahoma USA ========================
