Do what research you can before leaving Dublin, but do take the time to visit Cavan and get the feel of the place.. and visit the churches and their church yards etc... never know what you may find...Eire is a beautiful place, scenery out of this world.. visit Northern Ireland as well, Giants Causeway etc... lovely... best way is to hire a car, be your own boss!!!
