    3. Does anyone know if there is similar information available for a church in Co. Armagh? I need to find my ancestor's marriage in 1840 in Clare Presbyterian Church in Co. Armagh. 1. [IRL-CAVAN] Marriage, Birth and Death events before 1864

    3. Karen - Diane is right. Civil Registration with all this information on bride and groom began in 1864 for Births, Marriages and Deaths. However, if you were Protestant in 1845 [the official church of Ireland at the time] Marriages [not births or deaths] were mandated to be officially Registered beginning 1845 and used pretty much the same format as seen in the FARRELLY entry posted earlier. Under the column saying 'Condition' the clerk wrote "Young Man" when he should have written "Bachelor". This was still a fairly new procedure as of 1 Jan, 1864, the entry I posted was Feb 9, so he had still not been told what should be written in that column. He got the bride right, she was a "Spinster", someone who was not married. The best you'll find in 1840 is a line entry in a Marriage or Banns book. Armagh county has some Marriage / Banns books filmed by the LDS church but you must know the religion, it helps greatly to know the specific church and a date or range of years to search through. Each church kept its own books and only some have been filmed. MegG ======================
