    3. Hello to all, this is my first posting on this list. I have a Gilhooly family in Manchester, who according to census records were all born in Ireland except for the youngest who was born in Manchester abt. 1830. On the 1861 census a birthplace in Ireland is listed for the father and a daughter. The father, Charles Gilhooly’s, birthplace is listed as Carwen, Ireland about 1784 and the daughter Margaret’s as Carraganan, Ireland about 1826. To the best of my knowledge no such place names exist and I’m wondering if they could be Co. Cavan and Carrigallen, Leitrim. Do you think I could I be correct in this assumption? Was the Gilhooly name known in this part of Ireland? Any suggestions on how I might research this further would be appreciated. Thanks, Jenny, MO USA

    3. I also seek GILHOOLY and would be grateful if any information could be made known to me if it is seen for Ellen Darby, nee GILHOOLY, of Latt, Co Cavan, or environs. Or indeed, if any other suggestions are available to show me what direction to head off on. I note the researcher option. Can do more before that stage? My only actual reference, to date, is: Marriage record on February 5th, 1901 at Westport New Zealand, of my grandfather, Robert Darby, aged 51, born Latt, Co Cavan to WIlliam Darby (carpenter) and Ellen, nee GILHOOLY (Note: Robert emigrated to NZ after 1874, his year of marriage at Londonderry and before first child born in NZ in 1876) I have located the following (Griffiths Valuation): 1. Thomas GILHOOLY, tenant of Earl of Lanesborough (valuation ID 206493) 2. Thomas GILHOOLY, tenant of John Gumley (valuation ID 20622) 3. Patrick GILHOOLY, tenant of John Parker (valuation ID 219372), and 4. John GILHOOLY, tenant of Matthew Lough (valuation ID 211034) I cannot yet lay claim to any of the above. William DARBY - the same name as Ellen's husband, but may not be the same gentleman, is also listed as: William DARBY, tenant of Earl Annesley (valuation ID 205347) Alas, that is the sum total, at present... My thanks, Helen in New Zealand ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jennifer" <wwwrttt@charter.net> To: <IRL-CAVAN@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, February 23, 2009 3:42 AM Subject: [IRL-CAVAN] Gilhooly Hello to all, this is my first posting on this list.
