I'm working with very little information. What I know: My GG-grandmother Ellen Carroll was born 1813 in the town of Blackstep, Parrish of Knockbride. Co Cavan. I do not know who were her parents. Ellen married (abt 1838) John Duffy, son of Dennis Duffy & Ellen Boyle. They were married in Ireland, but I don't know where. Their first child, Catherine Duffy was born 1839 in Ireland. John & Ellen emmigrated soon afterwards,to New York state, possibly through Canada. John is listed as head of Household on the1840 Malone, Franklin Co,New York census. I have been able to trace & record the family after their arrival in the United States, but nothing about their lives in Ireland. My question...with this limited information where should I start my research in Ireland? Birth, Baptism & Marriage records seem to me where to start, but I have no idea where to look... are records for Blackstep available, or do I need to look for parrish records.... any suggestions or directions greatly appreciated.
