    1. [IRL-CAVAN] Query about Marriage record
    2. Hi, I just used the Cavan site to download a marriage record. It was a Catholic marriage. The information was so limited I could have known most from the original search. No parents, no age, no occupation and no address. Is this usual for Catholic marriages or was just unlucky? The Protestant marriage provide more information. Any confirmation would be appreciated. 3. Hi Carolyn, I think it's hard to define "usual" for the parish records. Each priest had his own way of recording. For marriages, you might get parents, and would probably get witnesses. You might get a townland, but not necessarily. I wouldn't expect to find age or occupation in a church record. If it occurred after 1864, however, you at least have a date which you can use to get the civil record, which would have age, father and occupation. In the couple of cases where I've purchased the records, the value to me was the confirmation of the match of the 2 individuals, and the date of the marriage. I too wish that parents were listed, but it is what it is. One side note, which I find interesting..., my GrGrandparents marriage was recorded in Latin, which was not uncommon. When the record was transcribed, they chose to translate it into English. I discovered this because I've been exchanging emails with the current pp. It doesn't matter too much, other than I generally record exactly what was written in the registers when keeping notes on my ancestors. (Johannes for John, Anna for Anne). And I guess to answer your original question, Father did offer this to me in one of our exchanges: "Sadly , the priest who was in the parish at the time generally ignored the column for parents' and witnesses' names so there are no further details for John and Anna ( the form of entry)...".
