Pat, you gave me a giggle with the comment that if you know what you are doing, it is probably easy! Not so! Irish genealogy is the hardest to figure out. Many vitals statistics were never put on record, the actual date for the keeping of records is 1864...before that you MUST know the names and the townlands they lived in or the Church where they might have attended or if they were born, married or died and there is no guarantee that you will find something. We all need a little Irish Luck to get our information. I actually forget what you said about your Owen, but if he came to the States, you might want to see if you can find where he landed and see if you can find the ship's manifest and from there you might be able to see if he became naturalized or became a citizen. From those papers you might find something. Go over to www.olivetreegenealogy.com/index.shtml and see what she offers for what you are looking for. She has tons of information and is updating all the time. She has ship lists and if you have dates or approximate dates, you might find something. Give that a try and if you don't find anything else, give me a shout and I will see where else you might try. Kelly's originated in Galway supposedly, but if you check each country, there will be Kelly's there in one form or another. I know mine was from Monaghan, but I still have not found out where. I have his citizenship papers and his army records for the civil war and yet there is not town or parents. I am still looking and hopefully with all the records coming on line gradually, I might find him before I die!! ;-) At least my kids will know! If you run into a wall, give me a shot again and I will see what I can do to help you find the info you need.
