    1. Re: [IRL-CAVAN] a question about Liverpool
    2. Beckstrom, Barbara A
    3. I've come into this at the tail end but have a question. I was told many went to Liverpool on small boats to catch the big ships. And the ships' log only would only list Liverpool.......not where the person boarded in Ireland. My great grandfather came in 1875 and his papers only list Liverpool. In fact I've not found any paper where he listed a town or county in Ireland. But he was born in Ireland..........a fact. Thanks for trying to clarify this for me. 1. [IRL-CAVAN] FHC Records to Order
    2. Elaine Sharp
    3. I have gone over and over all your wonderful notes and have the following questions. Re: County Cavan (for me, specifically Lurgan). I have looked at the FHC records to order and found a book for the index of the 1821 census. Does anyone know what is in the book? Also, is the film for this only at the Cavan Library. I did not find any other films to order before our ancestors came to Canada in 1831. Where in Dublin should I go to do research for County Cavan? Thank you. Elaine

    2. Pauline Leonard
    3. Hello Ellen, You really must include a side trip to Newgrange. It isn't far from Dublin. You will have to look it all up I just remember that we stopped there on our way from Belfast to Dublin. It is amazing. Here is a link: http://www.knowth.com/newgrange.htm If you check on some of the maps you will find a lot of Megalithic Tombs and stones in Co. Cavan. The place is dotted with them. None will be like Newgrange. It is something apart. I don't know if you are interested in this kind of thing. I just thought I would mention it. Have fun Pauline

    2. Tamy Lee
    3. Elaine, some census fragments do exist for parts of County Cavan back to 1821, and they have microfilms of them at the Cavan Library. Tom Sullivan was a great help to us there, and we were fortunate to find our family in the 1821 census. If you don't know the townland, it would be worth it to have a look, since your Farleys didn't leave until 1831. My best to you - Tamy

    2. Declan Barron
    3. Hi, It depends what stage you are at, The easiest access to parish records is your local LDS centre, The General Registry Office have a website and will search for a small fee, 1901 and 1911 census can be accessed in the local library or in Dublin. If you have got back as far as parish records can bring you, a trip to the parish cemetery and the local townland (to speak to locals ) would be the next step. Declan

    3. Now that I read back further on this, if you have the names of James FARELLY's parents from the US death certificate, the Index for Marriages in Ireland will [should] have the marriage listed which I can confirm by looking up both bride and groom's names and see if the Index data matches exactly. It has to match for them to be married to each other. Write to me with these names IF the marriage likely took place after 1 Jan, 1864 OR was Church of Ireland after 1 Jan, 1845. Catholic marriages were not mandated to be recorded until 1864. Between 1845 and 1863, only Church of Ireland [protestant] marriages had to be recorded. Any other church recorded marriages in their own books. MegG in Oklahoma USA =========================== Leigh Taffe Acla wrote: > Susan, > > Thank you for your reply.
