They are at the southern end of the parish, less than a mile or so W and SW of Mullagh village itself. 3. Carolyn, If you do not know the name of the spouse, there is no way to find it by using the Indexes. There is no entry for the matching spouse's name. Scotland eventually did list the spouse but not until 1928. I don't think Ireland ever did likewise even in later years. You can pretty much 'confirm' a matching bride and a groom if you know both names. They will have the same year, quarter, Parish, volume and page number when you look them both up and compare the Index data. There is the slight possibility they are indeed on the same PAGE but be actually wed to another person as there are up to 4 marriages on each page. Chances are slim, but I've had it happen once. 3. G'day I want to thank the list, especailly Rosaleen, for your help in getting me started in chasing up my Jackson family. I have been chasing up what is available in Sydney and an index to BDMs gave me John and Jemima's marriage date. Have ordered LDS films of the RIC records and parish registers and as the 1911 Irish census for Cavan should be available shortly (according to their fantastic website) will await these before further research. Further Queensland research around one daughter Agnes Jackson (Grantham) indicates other members of the family may have also come to Australia ....... cheers Narelle

    3. Hi John and Maureen, many thanks for your kind replies, to be honest I do not know if she did have a middle name. If she did she never used it. I have her marriage and death cert but they just have her first and last name on them. I have even wondered if she could have been born at sea and registered on arrival in England but no luck. Her birth is also proving to be extremely difficult to find. Maureen - Owen her father ended up in England with his family. I have tried three times for her cert. I was told at one time Cavan was in Northern Ireland until 1920 when it became part of the Republuic of Ireland. Perhaps we should have Irish ancestors with very unusual names, that way we might find them easier to locate. Kind regards pj

    3. To all, My apologies for any confusion. I had sent Pat a note off list regarding her grandmothers middle name. At brsgeneology.com there is a baptism in Annagh (RC) in1882 for a Mary Josephine Kelly. Pat, Cavan was and is in Ulster Province along with the 6 counties of NI and Donegal and Monaghan of the Republic. Prior to 1922 time frame, there was only Ireland. After the Irish Free State was established, Northern Ireland became a more formal entity. The civil records for Cavan would be found in the Republic's General Register's Office (GRO), though. The counterpart in Northern Ireland would be GRONI - General Register's Office of Northern Ireland. (PRONI stands for Public Records of NI). Given all of your time frames, if the records exists, meaning if the event was actually registered in Ireland, the records should be available through the GRO in Dublin/Roscommon. Your right about the unusual names... Kelly does not make your challenge a simple one. 3. Pat, you gave me a giggle with the comment that if you know what you are doing, it is probably easy! Not so! Irish genealogy is the hardest to figure out. Many vitals statistics were never put on record, the actual date for the keeping of records is 1864...before that you MUST know the names and the townlands they lived in or the Church where they might have attended or if they were born, married or died and there is no guarantee that you will find something. We all need a little Irish Luck to get our information. I actually forget what you said about your Owen, but if he came to the States, you might want to see if you can find where he landed and see if you can find the ship's manifest and from there you might be able to see if he became naturalized or became a citizen. From those papers you might find something. Go over to www.olivetreegenealogy.com/index.shtml and see what she offers for what you are looking for. She has tons of information and is updating all the time. She has ship lists and if you have dates or approximate dates, you might find something. Give that a try and if you don't find anything else, give me a shout and I will see where else you might try. Kelly's originated in Galway supposedly, but if you check each country, there will be Kelly's there in one form or another. I know mine was from Monaghan, but I still have not found out where. I have his citizenship papers and his army records for the civil war and yet there is not town or parents. I am still looking and hopefully with all the records coming on line gradually, I might find him before I die!! ;-) At least my kids will know! If you run into a wall, give me a shot again and I will see what I can do to help you find the info you need. 3. pj, google PRONI and see if you can get the url that goes to Proni. This is the record depository as far as I know. You could try there. Good Luck! I, too, have another Owen Kelly, but he was born in Monaghan in 1842 and came to Boston at the age of 10 in 1852. My mystery with him is where he was after landing in Boston and then after 1860is when he joined the army to fight for the North. My first records are his army papers that thankfully my Dad saved and now I have them. I am trying to find where in Monaghan he lived and his parent's name. So I understand your need to find records to. Keep trying...something will show up!! Best from Boston, Maureen Kelly Maloney At 11:53 AM 6/21/2009, you wrote: >Hi & thanks for the sites.
