Please send your message to the mail list instead of me directly. It is necessary that each of you save the mail list address in your address book that is the proper address to which to send new posts. That way you will not be replying directly to me. I get hundreds of emails a day and unnecessary emails cause me undue delay in getting responses that I should respond to. Your help will make a big difference for me. Also, please do not just reply keeping the same subject line in your email, unless it refers to that email. If you are posting your surnames, please place them in the subject line instead of just the words "Roll Call." When someone is searching for your surname in the archives, they won't find it, and the archives look like a mess with nothing substantive for the search engine to latch onto. Imagine doing a search for the words "roll call?" Thousands and thousands of useless responses will show up. Wouldn't you rather have some one find your post to the mail list in the archives because they were looking for your surname? Let's help each other by paying closer attention to our emails before we send them. You can always copy and paste a long (or a short) email and place it in a new email and then type the correct subject line into that space. Thank you.
The following site should be of some help. Ballyhaise is centrally located in Cavan. Map of Cavan (www.local.ie/general/map/cavan.shtml) A Google search probably will give you more information. Good luck. Carol Granville
Hi Rosemary: I have been searching Smith Smyth family who came over from Ireland around very early 1800s. ,James Smyth came from Cavan country and he was married to a Christiana McCallum. Apparently she was Irish/Scottish and her family may have been from Pershire Scotland. When I saw the name Smyth I thought I would answer you. James Smith ended up near Aylmer Quebec and had his marriage rehabilitated around 1832 in a Roman catholic church near Ottawa. James Smith has 6 children. My ggggrandfather was Owen, a daughter named jane who married Andrew Keon who also came from ireland (Fermanaugh). James also had 4 other sons who moved on to california USA. When he moved to the US the name was spelled Smyth. Some of the boys stayed with Smith, so i thought I would ask you about your Smyth name. There are also McKeon, McHugh, Keon, and I believe a Catharine Smith who came later from ireland to marry someone in canada. I don't have all me papers in front of me as I write this. Interested to know of your Smyth name and where they emigrated to and if you know of the Smyth Smith who left ireland. Never know where this genealogy will lead us. Thanking you in advance, Merle Smith Rosemary McKinley wrote: > Researching SMYTH, EDWARDS, BANNON in Templeport Parish, Co. Cavan, 1850 on. > > Rosemary McKinley

Hi, Am adding my research interests to the current roll call. I am tracing the Kellett surname in Co. Cavan. Other names which marry into the family are Tuite, Ridge, Dyall, Mayne, Young, Grattan. Earliest name is a Solomon Kellett. His son David married Martha Kellett. The line follows their son James and Jane nee Tuite, then James and Susanna nee Sterling, then Robert and Mary Jane Kellett, followed by James and Elizabeth Ridge. We then get to Robert Kellett and Sarah nee Dyall who came out to Australia. We know that many came to Australia but we've also been told that earlier members of the family went to America.
