    1. RE: [IRL-CAVAN] Movies made in Co. Cavan
    2. Julia Fulton
    3. According to: http://radio.weblogs.com/0117154/stories/2002/12/14/westernIreland.html "During ten weeks in the summer of 1951 Hollywood descended on the old-world Irish village of Cong to film a movie (the village had its first electric power installed that year). John Wayne, Maureen O'Hara and other Hollywood stars were trundled down narrow Irish roads while townsfolk looked on in curiosity. The Quiet Man film project must have been underwritten by a higher power because miraculously there was not a drop of rain that Irish summer to spoil the shooting schedule." -----Original Message----- From: MLeeN8NOK@aol.com [mailto:MLeeN8NOK@aol.com] Sent: Monday, February 09, 2004 5:06 PM To: IRL-CAVAN-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [IRL-CAVAN] Movies made in Co. 3. Actually, Annaghgelliffe is very sadly overgrown and wild at this time! Many stones having fallen into the ground and become covered over with ivy and moss. There was actually one new (2002) interment for a Reilly family member. Sadly I was in such a rush that I did not take the info down-I will try to transcribe all the standing stones in June when I am over. However I do know that Cavan library has the entire set of Breiffne and I am sure if you were to write to Tom Sullivan he would gladly find your required information. Good luck to you !! 1. [IRL-CAVAN] McGORRY
    2. Happy to see the name McGorry show up on the roll call. First time ever, I think. My grandmother, Susan McGORRY (MAGORRY) was born about 1873 in Cavan Ireland. Have never been able to pinpoint the town, nor get a copy of a birth certificate for her. She married my grandfather, Luke CAHILL in Knockbride, Cavan, and died on Dec. 5, 1938 in Bailieborough. Her father was Philip McGORRY who married Susan LYNCH (born about 1838, died 3/23/7) in Cullies. I have no dates on Philip McGORRY and believe his father was John MCGORRY. Susan McGORRY had a sister Mary and a brother John. Anything sound familiar? Jeanne, Mendham, NJ

    2. ANGLO-CELT OCTOBER 13, 1848 THE ERNE ESTATES Lord Erne has provided two agriculturists for his Fermanagh estate, who are to give instructions gratuitously to his tenantry; and those of them who bring certificates that they have followed the directions he proposed, will be allowed a 5 percent off the amount of their rent. His lordship has accepted £600 of the governmental loan for drainage purposes -- Armagh Guardian _____________________________________________________________ COOTEHILL SESSIONS (From our own Correspondent) Cootehill, October 11, 1848 The Quarter Sessions commenced here on the 11th inst. Our excellent Assistant-Barristr, P.M. MUJRPHY, Esq., Q.C., was in his usual health and spirits, and seemed nothing daunted at the formidable array of criminal business before him, though there were more than a hundred and thirty numbers on the crown book. Most of the felony cases were of a trifling nature, serving rather to shew the poverty than the depravity of the prisoners in the dock. The numerous parties against whom Mr. HASSARD, of Bailieborough, swore informations for a riot and assault (of which particulars appeared in a late number of the ANGLO-CELT) had a cross case against the prosecutor, Mr. M'GAURAN appeared for Mr. HASSARD and Mr. James ARMSTRONG for the MALLENS and those who acted with them. After the Assistant-Barrister allowed all the parties to traverse in prox, Mr. HASSARD rose and asked permission to speak a few words? Assistant-Barrister--Certainly. Mr. HASSARD--Your worship, I have not the least objection to these people, though their conduct has been most outrageous traversing in prox; but I should like to put your worship in possession of the facts of the case. Barrister--Not now, Mr. HASSARD; when the case comes regularly before me, I shall be prepared to hear what you have got to say. (Discussion regarding an affidavit) After some more conversation, it was finally settled by the court that parties should be bound over to keep the peace, and that the case should be tried at the next Bailieborough Sessions. 3. Hello again, I’m glad the information I was able to provide regarding Derver Cemetery was helpful. Parts of my Carroll family are related to Mulvaneys from Lisduff, which is very near Edenburt, in the southern part of County Cavan. It does not appear that Barbara’s Mulvaney family is the same one. I currently have a microfilm of the church records of the Catholic church in Maghera on loan at the local Family History Library, and have noticed many Mulvaney entries among the records. Like I mentioned in my first reply regarding Derver Cemetery, I’d written to a well-known genealogical library (Allen County Public Library) for information on an article in Briefne I’ve seen regarding this cemetery. Unfortunately, they wrote back that the volume and page do not exist. If anyone does have information on the cemetery, especially transcription records, I’d be interested in them. They have a graveyard in front of the church and on the sides, and maybe in back of the church. Across the road is St. Brigid (Roman Catholic) in Larah. We have been there. It is a new church built approximately in 1976-1981. It is modern and built round. I do not know where Clifferna is but I know where Stradone and Larah are. 2. Barbara Morton
    3. Hi List I just would like to say a BIG THANK YOU to all those who have look into solving the mystery about the above cemetery. As Shane has summarised it:- 1. Dervor in its alternate spelling Derver can be see to fit the original article very well, as previously explained; 2. Mulvany is a name associated with that part of the county which is up around Virginia (Cavan Library) 3. Dervor is an old graveyard (long closed) (per Cavan library) and therefore fits the description in the Anglo Celt. I suppose one thing you might want to do is at least prove that there were burials there as late as the 1850's when the Celt was being written. The article may be of use here. 4. Henry Mulvany was father of the two priests in the article and their mother was Ellen Farrelly. They came from Lisduff,Lurgan which is beside Virginia. (per library) It makes perfect sense that he would be buried there. Regards Barbara -- Barbara Morton Sandspit, Warkworth, NZ
