I couldn't find Legaland, but Google says Crossdoney is in Kilmore parish. Diane
Excellent Fran, thank you! Lorna, I visited St. Michael's in October. My GrGrandfathers baptism was recorded, and he is buried in Pottahee, but I could not find my Grandfathers record. In Dublin I learned that his brother was born in legaland. A different parish makes sense. And Nancy, thanks for the link. I had always accessed the database via the Roscommon- Leitrim site. http://www.leitrim-roscommon.com/index.shtml Best to all. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]]On Behalf Of Fran Miller Sent: Monday, February 19, 2007 4:12 PM To: Nancy & Ted; [email protected] Subject: Re: [IRL-CAVAN] Roman Catholic Parish of Crossdoney? It's about 1 mile from Legaginney which is in the RC Parish of Ballintemple. Not sure about the church but it could be St Michaels, Potahee Lorna
Would anyone know whether Crossdoney, or more specifically Legaland, is in the RC parish of Kilmore, Killashandra, or Ballintemple? Thanks in advance. John
Oh, sorry, I'm not sure about the church parishes, on that one. But I bet the PRONI site would help you on that one. Tricky to maneuver through that one, but Cavan is a county in Ulster. Nancy -----
Try checking it out at www.seanruad.com, it's a great site. Be sure to read the Help section if you don't get it on the first try or two. Nancy
Is anyone else researching this family from the Cootehill area of County Cavan? James Hare and his family came to Philadelphia PA, first in 1848. In June of 1854 John Hare from Cootehill came to Philadelphia aged 14 or 15. In 1865 John Hare married Margaret Quinn who was from Philadelphia. They had 7 children and the Hares all stayed in the Philadelphia area.
Ireland Genealogy Projects (IGP) has a new project. The project is an archives for Ireland. The idea is that we will put transcriptions of Public Domain (pre 1923) documents online. This will not replace our county projects - it will be an adjunct to them. Submissions and volunteers are very welcome. Submissions would be in text format. The project is called Ireland Genealogy Projects Archives You can see it at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~irlarchive/ Thanks, Christina
Josiah, I don't know about 1700s, but in the 1800s, Cavan is definitely the spot -- have you tried this site yet? It also lists some McGuire websites. http://www.ireland.com/ancestor/surname/index.cfm?fuseaction=Go.&UserID= Also, be sure to check the message boards at rootsweb for info about McGuire, if you haven't done so already--my best information has come from people finding Me after I left a message. Thanks for the heads up Ellen, You were correct about the junk email filter. Found mine and sorted out straight away. I am looking for a John Crowe, his wife Bridget (nee Wall) and Mother Mary. They came to USA about 1850's I think. Anything you can find for now would be good. At a rough guess can you tell me how many Crowe entries there were? Hello listers: Im hoping that someone will be able to give me a bit of advice. Im trying to find my way across the "pond", as they say. The earliest mention of my ancestor (a Francis McGuire) is found in a 1734 record in Goochland Co., Virginia. This Francis may have been born around 1724 in America? Im hoping that some research in Ireland may possibly pick up the trail on the other side of the Ocean. But, I'm not certain where I should start? Would anybody possibly have any suggestions for me? If you were looking for a "McGuire" ancestor that came to America prior to 1734; from what county in Ireland would they have come from? Im wondering what counties in Ireland in late the 1600's and early 1700's would have contained the most "Mc" or "Mac"Guire spellings? One other possibly useful clue, my family frequently named their males Francis McGuire. There were 6-7 Francis McGuires in my family tree going back to 8 generations. Thanks for your thoughts, and advice. Josiah Email: [email protected]
