    2. kathie
    3. Hello, my name is Kathleen Bolin (nee finnegan). Our G=Great Grandfather was Edward Finnegan born abt 1864 Crosserlough county Cavan,on his marriage certificate he list his parents as Patrick & Ellen Finnegan nee Bradey, Edward Married 1900 Belfast to Mary Catherine Moloney born 7 May 1872 Old Kilpatrick, Dunbarton, Scot. I haven't been able to find Patrick & Ellen having a son named Edward, but have found a John & Ellen Finnegan. When he did in 1919 his age was put as 66. Mary Catherine's parents are Michael & Catherine Moloney (nee Spellisy) I have found more siblings for Mary in Ireland, other spelling of maiden name Spellesey, Spellissy. Edward and Mary came out to Western Australia, early 1900's Any Help would be much appreciated. Thanking you Kath

    2. Crosserlough is in south Cavan, a bit south of Cavan town. In the 19th century names were spelled many different ways, depending on the person who was taking the information. Finegan would be a common variation of Finnegan. Diane </HTML>

    1. Re: [IRL-CAVAN] GAUGHRAN and COLLINS in Cavan near Meath?
    2. Yes, since you have both names, the date, and the general location, the GRO should be able to find them in the index pretty easily. There is probably only couple in all of Ireland with those two names who married each other around that time. Or you could save a few dollars, rent the index film for that period from the LDS, and look them up yourself. Diane </HTML>

    1. Re: [IRL-CAVAN] GAUGHRAN and COLLINS in Cavan near Meath?
    2. Since you have a wedding date, you could request a copy of the civil marriage record from the GRO. That would lead you to their parish(es) and church records. The failteromhat Griffith's index shows only one Gaughran in Cavan at that time, in Ballintemple parish, no Collinses there but nearby. They may have come from adjoining parishes. Diane </HTML>

    1. [IRL-CAVAN] GAUGHRAN and COLLINS in Cavan near Meath?
    2. cathy hatcher
    3. Looking for information on 19th and 20th century Gaughran and Collins families, probably along the area of Co. Cavan that borders Co. Meath. My great-grandparents were Bryan [called Bernard at times] Joseph Gaughran, born in Ireland 1855-1858, and his wife, Catherine “Kate” Collins, born 20 June, 1859, in Ireland; according to the family stories, they were married in Ireland on 9 May 1880; they left for the U.S. the following day. Family has it that Bryan left a small shoe repair business in Ireland for one of his brothers to take over. Bryan’s brother Patrick [born around 1848] was already in New York City as of 1868. I have requested copies of their death certificates and know from these that Kate’s parents were Patrick Collins and Ann Carolan; Bryan/Bernard’s parents were Eugene Gaughran and Bridget Smith. Bryan’s brother Patrick’s death certificate, however, lists his father as Owen. Perhaps Eugene was a given name and Owen was a nickname? These death certificates list just “Ireland” as the places of birth for all four of my great-great grandparents. I have a lead, from a descendant of Bernard and Kate’s daughter, Anna Gaughran Cunningham, that there is a family relation to a Bishop Gaughran of either County Meath or the Diocese of Meath, Ireland. I have researched Bishop Laurence Gaughran and know he was born in 1842 or 1843 in the parish of Lobinstown, Co. Meath; he studied and was ordained in Maynooth, spent time serving in Taghmon parish, Navan, and Kells, and became a bishop in 1906. He died in 1928 and is buried “in the grounds of the Cathedral,” which could either be St. Mary’s Cathedral in Mullingar or the former cathedral, currently St. Mary’s Church, in Navan [I am not sure which Bishop moved the diocesan seat to Co. Westmeath or in what year that took place]. Any details that look helpful would be greatly appreciated! Thank you. --------------------------------- Finding fabulous fares is fun. Let Yahoo!
