    3. Pat Purcell Papers. 1811. The Information of John Brodrick of the Town of Carlow, Tailor, taken before William Browne, of Browne's Hill, Esquire, one of His Majestys Justices of the Peace for Carlow. Informant John Brodrick who being duly Sworn on the Holy Evangelists and Examined Saith that on Monday the Eleventh day of November 1811 as Informant was at the Auction at the House of Thomas FitzGerald in Tullow Street he was most grossly Insulted and abused in the Presence of a Concourse of Persons then Present by Michael Connolly of the Town of Carlow - Shop Keeper - who without Just Cause or Offence gave Informant a blow of his fist on the face and said at the time -- take that you Drunken rascal --, and at the Same time Clinched his fist at Informant with intent to ill treat him further and Would have done so if Informant had not left the Auction room ~ (signed) John Brodrick.
